i have an asus 970 pro gaming/aura motherboard will a samsung evo 970 work in it?

No, you are stuck with SATA 3 SSD's unless you upgrade to Intel Z97 boards or newer, or AMD's Ryzen

i see i looked around and it said the 960 and 970 evo would work in it but i wasnt 100% sure if this was correct

I'm surprised that you even have a 970 pro gaming board, since those were around for a very short period. But here is the list of supported M.2 SSDs and SSDs:

it will work, but that system doesn't support nvme boot so your os can't be on there. It also is only pcie 2 so speeds will be slower, get a sata ssd.

I have gigabyte z170x ultra gaming...can evo 970 fits
