What does "X3 240GB" mean?

I would assume it's referring to the storage capacity.

That's what I thought, but that seems like a weird format, why not just say "720 GB"?

I'm 100% certain that "X3 240GB" doesn't literally mean 240 x 3, that's just not smart marketing. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that the whole "X3" is just a branding thing, and holds no significant value.

That's the model name. The other SSDs are called X3 *something* too.

You're not getting 720GB that cheap, no way.

The capacity of the drive is not 240x3=720.  It's only 240.

Also, are you in the US?  You're looking at UK Amazon.

If you want another confirmation.

It is a 240GB SSD. "X3" is probably to say "SATA-III"

Seeing that the drive is 240GB instead of 256GB says that the drive is using old technology or cheap chips. Such drive are actual 265GB, but reduced to 240GB, where the lost space is kept as reserved space to keep the performance up, and extent the life of the SSD by having space to cover up memory chip sections that wear out and can not longer reliably be written to anymore.

Samsung does it on the EVO branded models (lower end of the Pro series), because it uses lower quality chip in terms of reliability (and performance), of type TLC, instead of MLC.
