2560x1080 21:9 aspect ratio gaming help!

Bctrent

I am building a computer sporting a Ryzen 5 1600, a b350 chipset motherboard, vengence lpx RAM 8gigs total (2x4gb), and a samsung 860 evo hard drive. I have a 34 inch IPS panel monitor that runs 2560x1080p. I am very torn on GPU's. I dont think a 1060 will be enough to play AAA gaming on ultra, but im also concerned about how well my set up will do with a 1070ti with fears of bottlenecking. any suggestions?

1060 6GB will be fine for the most part. Definitely no ULTRA settings for all games but you should manage most of them on HIGH at 60FPS.

1070+ will be more than fine for anything High/Ultra 60+ FPS.

Would a 1070ti be suffice for 75fps ultra on said monitor? as it is 75hz

Is it a Freesync monitor? Some monitors only work at 75Hz with AMD cards IIRC.

That said, you're not really pushing that many more pixels than you would if you were using a regular aspect ratio 1080p monitor. Why gloss over the 1070? It's a nice middle ground and would do you just fine. Ultra isn't really necessary if you're on more of a budget, most games are near indistinguishable between high and ultra settings.

Look, it really comes down to what game you play.

In theory, it should.

But there are definitely some games that struggle with 60-75FPS on ULTRA on that resolution even with 1080ti. For example Ghost Recon Wildlands is very demanding... because its very unoptimised. Arma 3... good luck with 30-40FPS, etc...

In my honest opinion, Ultra gaming makes no sense at all, and I am playing at 1440p with 1080ti. Most games really look the same at High vs Ultra... I really struggle to notice many differencess except the insane FPS hit that Ultra settings often achieve. Sure, there are some benefits in Ultra settings, but what I am trying to say is that it makes no sense just to max out every single setting in the game, some have a purpose, like a view distance for example... but most of them, usually AA are very unnecessary.

It actually is a freesync monitor. If there is an AMD GPU that would work better im not against it, but i hear the vegas are a bit over priced in my opinion. My laptop, has a gtx 1060 in it and was capable to push 75hz effectively on a game like wow

So, i play games like WoW, Rainbow Six Siege, Final Fantasy 15 (Very demanding imo), Dying Light. Witcher 3, stuff like that. I jsut want to play my games at a 60-75fps window and not have screen tearing and stutters.

RX 580 8GB will do just fine on that resolution.

It is a bit better than the GTX 1060 6GB and since the monitor has Free-Sync, you will have a nice gaming experience even if you drop some FPS here and there.

Vega 56 is either out of stock or the price is just way out of whack.

If you decide to pick the RX580 I recommend the XFX GTR or GTS cards.

It can still work at 75 hz with nvidia, you just don't get freesync. Mine has that so I just leave it freesync on to get 75 hz :D

Have you looked into rx 580? I don't think they're that much rn.

WoW isn't a very demanding game, so that doesn't surprise me :P I wouldn't pay for Vega, as you said they're generally overpriced for their performance.

Ahh good to know, I remember reading some reviews on monitors with 75hz and Freesync and they were unable to get the 75hz option activated with an Nvidia GPU.

I think the RX 580 would be rather poor performing compared to a 1070, no?

this card seems very comparable to what i want and the price is alot less than the 1070's i was looking at. how would this do me/?

I was achieving 75hz with a freesync monitor using an Nvidia card. So I was hoping a 1070/ti would be able to as well.

Its all right but this one is cheaper and better

https://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-1386MHz-Graphics-RX-580P8DFD6/dp/B06Y66K3XD/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1529685398&sr=1-2&keywords=xfx+580+8gb

only the XFX GTR and ASUS Strix is better than this one but the Strix is much more expensive and the GTR seems to be unavailable... but if you go for the looks of the card then sure, pick the Dual.

The 1070 is definitely better but 2560x1080 is only 33% higher res than 1920x1080 and RX 580 8GB is cabable to handle the resolution.

I do believe after doing some research that i may risk it and just try to use the XFX Radeon RX 580, thank you very much for all your assistance in this

UPDATE- When i arrived at my local computer store, they had an EVGA GTX 1070ti w/ 8gb gddr5 for 400. Feeling like this was to good of a deal to pass up, i took it. I appreciate the talks and help. I benchmarked my new system using a series of games. Witcher 3 w/ maxed settings w/slightly reduced nvidia hairworks settings to fix some stuttering i was getting i hold a fierce 60fps but cant get the fps go higher as witcher internally locks fps at 60 | Final Fantasy 15 maxed settings in Insomnia I was holding 60-75 fps even in water which i found impressive, but i did have some minor stuttering here and there. I downloaded World of Warcraft and played since it was a free weekend and I just maxed that bitch out and enjoyed it. Easy... As for thermals, My case has 2 large fans in the grill and one in the back pulling air front to back and through all the games and settings i tried. My computers temps were cool as can be imo. Highest temp i recorded on my gpu was 65c. highest cpu temp was 59c. I am extremely satisfied with my build and will be making a post on PCPartpicker to show it off. Thanks again for all the help and input.

1070ti for $400 is definitely a great deal.

Witcher 3 can go above 60FPS.. check the settings. I was playing well above 100.

How do you get it to go higher? I checked the settings and it seems to be capped at 60. also are the cinematics capped at 30 fps? or atleast some of them. It seems like major cutscenes are capped at 30fps

Yeah i just looked it up, apparently the game automatically caps fps at 60 if you have v-sync on, so i am going to disable it and see what happens when i get home from work tonight.
