Evidence emerges of a PC Port of Red Dead Redemption 2

One of Rockstar programmers has updated his LinkedIn profile to include the fact he worked on RDR2 however he might have let a pretty big secret slip in the process.

Rockstar has been quiet on whether Red Dead Redemption 2 will be coming to PC or not. Luckily for us, a developer has accidentally let it slip on LinkedIn.

 

The developer, who we will keep nameless, previously worked on GTA V and L.A. Noire as a programmer. We’ve looked into them to verify this.

 

Their LinkedIn profile also lists Red Dead Redemption 2, and the platforms they worked on: PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Here’s a screen:

Of course everyone know this is classic Rockstar tactics, going back to GTA San Andreas they've always released PC ports much later than console versions.

Rockstar previously released GTA V towards the end of a console generation without any word on a PC version. The PC version only came when the new consoles launched and the company released an upgraded edition.

 

This tactic really worked for Rockstar and the company sold far more copies of the game as a result. We wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the same tactic being used here.

The programmer has since removed the PC from the update fueling speculation that this is probably real, this is the first hint we've seen that a PC Port exists.

Feels good to get a bit of confirmation, even though as everyone's already mentioned we all knew it was coming to PC anyway. God damn normies with their "graphics of RD2 on PC memes" can come to an end lol

Port.... great. GTA V on PC was greatly improved from the console versions

It pisses the hell out of me this tactics to leave us wondering without letting us know for real or not, I do NOT own any console, all my gaming is on the PC, so stuff like "oh but if I know PC is coming I won't buy console version" is so much bullshit, people have platforms of preference and will purchase regardless if they know or not if its coming to a specific platform.

 

They try doing this so people in a hurry to play will get the console first and maybe re-buy it when PC ends up coming, it's such an anti-consumer tactic frankly...

 

Thank God for the leaks this made me a little happier, Red Dead Redemption had one of the best single player story driven game experiences I experienced, would hate not being able to enjoy its second title out of greediness.

That's incorrect, Rockstar didn't purchase Red Dead to make RDR, they purchased an all but abandoned and unnamed title from Capcom which they reworked into Red Dead Revolver. Redemption came many years after Revolver and used a different engine.

 

Also I might be wrong here but I vaguely remember The Houser brothers doing an interview and saying they wanted to port RDR to PC but it never happened because the source code for RDR was a mess and it to fix it for a PC port would have been to much work.

That assumes RDR2 will be anywhere nearly as successful as GTA V: the most successful entertainment product in history.

It's a fair assumption that it will do VERY FUCKING WELL, hype is already off the charts and even if it doesn't surpass GTA V it will still beat any other game released this year.

 

Did you notice the pattern at E3? Apart from 3 games* (BF 5, COD BLOPS 3 & the new AC) no other big titles are releasing in Q3, that's the holiday season and nobody is bothering to release anything. Literally every other AAA game is coming in 2019 and a huge chunk of them are coming in February. Everyone knows that nothing will compete with RDR2 so it's best to not bother trying.

 

*I'm ignoring sports titles because they always release at the start of a new season.

I'm not saying the game won't do well. I am saying that doing the exact same release structure of GTA V will pay not off nearly as much: The PC version then got held off because the priority #1 was the then new-gen consoles.

 

That was very significant because I have actually recently tried to play GTA V on an xbox 360 and it's night and day: It's not just that it's locked to 30 because PS4 and Xbone versions are too but it just seems to basically struggle so much to run the game competently. Like seriously it feels sluggish enough that's it's actually hard to drive fast cars on that version.

 

So given that the game basically managed double sales because everybody couldn't wait for the extremely superior PS4 and Xbone version I am honestly not sure this can be the case again with a hypothetical PS5 and newer gen consoles: there's not much to suggest we will ever see such a gigantic leap in performance as we saw going from PS3 to PS4 for example.

Ok yeah, I see your point and I agree. Double dipping this time won't make them as much because there won't be much technical difference between the console port and pc port.

 

If you remember though, they did release the PC port 6 months after the next gen console port so technically they released GTA V 3 times.

 

I gotta be honest, I bought GTA V 3 times, once on release day for XB360, I preordered it for PC then I picked it up again last Christmas on PS4 cause it was like £10 in the sales.

If you remember though, they did release the PC port 6 months after the next gen console port so technically they released GTA V 3 times.

 

I gotta be honest, I bought GTA V 3 times, once on release day for XB360, I preordered it for PC then I picked it up again last Christmas on PS4 cause it was like £10 in the sales.

I don't have a PS4 or Xbone but if I did I'd pick up GTA V on discount too because dealing with hackers on the PC version is a game of cat and mouse: it gets quiet and nice for a while then newer/patched mod menus reappear and it becomes a huge mess again and it takes R* months to block said new mod menus and ban modders from online.

And just like GTA V, we have RDR 2 coming out at near the end of a console generation. So the PC version will likely be the next gen version of the game just like with GTA V.

That was very significant because I have actually recently tried to play GTA V on an xbox 360 and it's night and day: It's not just that it's locked to 30 because PS4 and Xbone versions are too but it just seems to basically struggle so much to run the game competently. Like seriously it feels sluggish enough that's it's actually hard to drive fast cars on that version.

 

So given that the game basically managed double sales because everybody couldn't wait for the extremely superior PS4 and Xbone version I am honestly not sure this can be the case again with a hypothetical PS5 and newer gen consoles: there's not much to suggest we will ever see such a gigantic leap in performance as we saw going from PS3 to PS4 for example.

The fact that PS5 has been rumored to be using Ryzen cores suggests we could see a huge leap in performance next gen, since the system would no longer be massively cpu bottlenecked like the PS4 Pro and XBox One X are.

It’s cool to see they still are releasing content for GTA V but yeah maybe new consoles version

No way it's anywhere near as successful as GTA V, but it's still going to make them a boatload of money and they have set themselves up nicely to double dip again.

That was very significant because I have actually recently tried to play GTA V on an xbox 360 and it's night and day: It's not just that it's locked to 30 because PS4 and Xbone versions are too but it just seems to basically struggle so much to run the game competently. Like seriously it feels sluggish enough that's it's actually hard to drive fast cars on that version.

 

So given that the game basically managed double sales because everybody couldn't wait for the extremely superior PS4 and Xbone version I am honestly not sure this can be the case again with a hypothetical PS5 and newer gen consoles: there's not much to suggest we will ever see such a gigantic leap in performance as we saw going from PS3 to PS4 for example.

I mean having Zen in consoles will be huge and 7nm Vega might actually be a pretty big leap for low end hardware. Not sure if it will be quite 360 to Xbox one as the 360 was out for so long before it was upgraded but it could be a significant step up especially in cpu bound scenarios.
