NUC Hades Canyon vs a custom SFF build

Pauling

Hi I'm torn beetwen building my own SFF system( https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6f44gw) or getting a Hades Canyon NUC with vega m GH , I understand building my own is often the best but the Hades Canyon has thunderbolt 3 and vastly superior IO + faster memory . I have also been told that the 8700 in my build may throttle . My main use case will be video editing with some 1080p gaming and size is important for me. I'd like to ask the community to help me choose though

Throttle how?

Also what's your budget?

A question about I/O is to ask yourself, do you actually need it? Do you have a lineup of Thunderbolt 3 devices you'd like to use or whatever else the NUC comes with?

As far as the thermal throttling goes, it will if you give it something like Prime95, but that's an unrealistic workload. Under normal workloads it shouldn't throttle.

By throttling I meant that the low profile noctua might not be able to handle an 8700 under full load , as for tb3 I'd like to use it with an hdd array / ssd array and a few cool docks , another cool feature of the NUC is a fast charger on the front of the machine which could help me with charging my phone at work . Bear in mind that I would move my pc around multiple times a day (beetwen work and home and my desk and my living room , so the NUC scores a point here and finally it has a vesa mount which could come in handy too.

I have an i7-6700 with a 95W TDP low profile computer and it doesn't thermal throttle at all unless I give it an unrealistic workload like Prime95.

Do you also have the TB3 HDD or were you planning on getting one? Because there's no real reason to get a TB3 enclosure for an HDD. USB 3.0 is sufficiently fast for at least three hard drives working hard over the pipe.
