Good AirCooling for i7-7700k KabyLake

MrMoonTM

Hey guys, my cpu usually hits 71c while playing video games but once I play a game that's very demanding the temperatures just start rising. it goes up to like 75c-85c.

Do you guys know any air coolers that would help me out? And are these alright temperatures for the i7-7700k Kaby Lake?

PC SPECS:

Case:Corseair Carbide Spec Alpha case

GPU:GTX 1060 OC 3GB

RAM:CORSEAIR 16GB VENGENCE

MOTHERBOARD:ASUS ROGSTRIX B250H

POWERSUPPLY:EVGA 850W BRONZE

Please help!

I'm personally a fan of the Noctua NH-U14S or the NH-D15 (if you're a baller).  They're easy to mount and have some of the best performance available in air coolers.

The Dark Rock Pro 4 is a good option because it's a high end air cooler and it's really silent.

Will it fit in my case?

I don't think so. The DRP4 is 162mm high while your case can only support a 156mm air cooler.

I guess you'll have to find other options :(

The Cryorig H7 49.0 CFM air cooler fits in your case and it's a pretty decent air cooler.

The best performance one that can fit will be the Scythe Fuma Rev.B, though having more fans (3 for this one) means more noise

I honestly don't mind fan noise at all, it never really bothered me. Ill take the sound of the fighter jet if it means my cpu stays cool all the time xD.

One of them will. Corsair Vengeance (the all black ones with yellow words right?) are short enough to stand below it, though

The case spec doesn't account for the side panel bump. The actual clearance available is ~160mm.

The DRP4 would hang over the first or second dimm slots without the front fan. It might fit the case but I'd suggest avoiding it in case it doesn't.

The ETS-T40F which is just under 162mm fits in the case. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/C3hqqs

The NH-D15 for example also fits. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/Yx29TW

The H7 and NH-U14S completely clears the dimm slots but the latter doesn't fit in the case.

75-85c at load is a bit warm but still safe. Getting a better cooler would help but isn't necessary.

If you would like a better cooler, let us know where you're shopping / located and your budget so we can give better recommendations.

Well the thing is. It was running at those temperatures while I was playing a 2D game. And the temperatures that high worry me especially since the game isnt that demanding.

the game is called Terraria and it might have had a bunch of mods but its a 2D game y’know. And the longer I play the hotter it gets.

Being a 2D game means low GPU load, but not necessarily low CPU load. From what I know, Terraria can still make dual core laptops cry when they try run it.

7700K is hot chip, but if you aren't going to OC, you could just set manual voltages to limits power draw and so chip heating. And by manual voltages I don't mean downvolting or downclocking. Just limiting motherboards automatic habit of giving way too much voltage when its not really needed.

You still haven't said whats the current cooler?

That's not much better than Intel's chronically undersized buzzaws.

You don't need the biggest or the most expensive cooler to get lot better performance at lot lower noise.

Besides many of those huge fashion coolers having issues with memory slot clearance, or protruding/touching space of uppermost PCI-e slot.

Something like Thermalright Macho 120 would be free of those space issues with good cooling performance at low noise and at reasonable price.

Scythe Mugen 5 should be still better and very reasonably priced.

Both of them sound pretty neat, but how much will they lower the temperatures?
