first setup $1600ish 1st Time Build; Advice, Rookie Mistakes, and Incompatibility

So I've finally saved up enough to build my first gaming computer. What I was going for was pretty high performance, but keeping within a reasonable price. The list of parts for the PC will be listed below, and I haven't purchased anything yet. Will there be any type of bottlenecking anywhere? And what are my options to fix it? Do I have all the parts that I actually need to make a working computer? And is there anything in there that you know sucks but I don't, or if I can get similar or equal performance for a better price? (For example, I have the 8th gen i5 but I know that Ryzen processors are way cheaper). I plan to use the PC to play the generic eye roll AAA titles that everyone plays like the latest Call of Duties, Assassins Creeds, and PUBG. If this build is completely broken and you have a great build in the $1600 to $1700ish range, then I'd love to hear about your superior skills! Please take it easy on me if I look like an idiot, I've never done this before! I am also willing to lose a frame or two if it means big savings!

Here is what i can see right off the bat, that network card is 35 have to checked to see if its cheaper to get a mobo that has wireless wifi built in?

I would also add a 256GB SSD for OS and a few games or whatever

Also for GPU you could get a  "better" GPU that is ASUS instead and would have three fans instead of a blower style which should help with thermals. ( you could even get a 1080 for about 500$ on pcpp.)

1. Not big enough of a cooler to surpress the heat of a 5GHz 8600k. It's more like 4.4-4.7GHz before it gets too hot to be good for long term use.

 

2. No need to buy seperate thermal paste unless you're certain you will screw up a few tries of thermal paste application. Cryorig's stock paste is decent.

 

3. Get a 2x4GB kit rather than 1x8 (2x8 is the best, though budget reasons I guess) since this board can hold 4 sticks of RAM and you'll want dual channel memory. No necessarily high frequency though.

 

4. Ryzen 5 2600 (X and non-X) are both slower than 8600k in games. If you dont do streaming or other productivity work, there's no point in getting Ryzens.

 

5. An SSD is more important than a HDD. Your budget should be enough to add a 500GB SSD without sacrificing the HDD, but do so if money is a problem.

 

6. Graphics card is overpriced for a 1070ti. Do you really like the reference design this much?

 

7. EVGA BQ 500w sucks. Check here:

Tier 4 or below should not come close to this PC

i would advise you to get more than 8 gigabytes of ram, as in my experience many new tittles need a bit more, or uses almost all of it which leads to stutters, though you could buy it later if you see this happening with the games you play, as the games you play might not have the same problem

A cooler certainly good enough to hold a 5GHz overclock with good temperatures.

 

MSI Z370 M5 comes with a post code, very useful when the system doesnt boot.

 

2x4GB DDR4 3000MHz, just over $10 more than the cheapest 2x4GB kit anyway

 

500GB SSD can hold everything you would put on a boot drive. Enough space for multiplayer games in there as well, since getting in the game faster is a gameplay advantage. HDD can just plug in at a later time without reintalling anything, unlike adding an SSD and making it the boot drive.

 

Cheapest 1070ti with a good design.

 

Meshify C TG is just my recommendation. The Spec-03 you chose has no dust filter for the front intakes (dusty), no PSU shroud to hide the cables, has a side window rather than full tempered glass and the front looks messy imo. It's functionally fine.

 

550w Bronze PSU cost merely $15 less, so why not get a superior one?

 

I'd replace all the fans easily visible just for the looks. The meshify C holds 3 fans at the front, 2 fans at the top, 1 at the back and 1 at the bottom (which can stay with the stock fan or use what comes with the H110i cooler). For minimum spending on fans, just add 1 fan to the front.

 

I know it's a 24" monitor rather than a 27", but it's a 144Hz VA panel, which means high refresh rate without giving up vibrant colors, something many 1080p 144Hz monitors dont have (because they use TN panels).

Chahnge the case to a phanteks p400/p350x or a Fractal Design Meshify C. 

 

Get a better power supply (Seasonic has a new lineup - they're very reliable). 

 

Get a different monitor, either a cheaper 60hz or a 144hz - it will be worth it. 

 

Get an m.2 pcie sad (Samsung 960 is good, 250gb)

 

Buy two sticks of RAM (2x4)

 

Get a better cooler from the likes of be quiet! or Noctua. You could also opt for a Cryorig R1.
