Built this on PC part picker.. thoughts on it? **NEW**

hoiv

So I recently posted a build, that a lot of people commented on. On PC Part Picker I was looking for a i7-8700k but my motherboard didn't support that, and I didn't realize that lol. I changed it up a bit,and here it is. Please comment if I need a better water cooler (if so, recommend something RGB). Budget is $1500.

i7-8700K

MasterLiquid ML240L RGB

MSI Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151

Corsair Vengeance RBG 16GB

Samsung 860 Evo 250GB SSD

Seagate Barracuda 2TB

MSI GTX 1060 6GB GT OCV1

NZXT Phantom 530 (like this out of the options the best)

Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold

Corsair ll120RGB LED 120mm

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got a lot of good feedback from my last post and just updated it. I'd really appreciate it for some more feedback.

If you're in the US, get this instead of the GTX 1060 6G.

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-5998-RX

It's even better than the GTX 1070.

You just won't get some of the Pascal features like HEVC acceleration or 4k Netflix on PC... but that can be done with the iGPU on the 8700k so it doesn't matter.

I don't know what kind of budget you have in mind for the GPU, but you could go for the ASUS Strix 1060 6 GB as well. Its beefy cooler allows for better overclocking results.

That build is unbalanced if it is for gaming.

If you have this build in pcpartpicker, would you either post the Permalink (upper left above the build list) or click [bb] (middle above the build list) and paste the result.

The cpu seems a bit much for the gpu.

I'd drop the extra fans for now, put the savings into the gpu.

You might consider a different case. Do you really need an optical drive?

I have a 970 laying around.. would that be better then a 1060? Also, I really like this case and I'd just like an optical drive just in case I ever need it for something.

Strong cpu but weakish gpu. I would rather have an i5 8400 or i7 8700 etc and B360 chipset with a stronger gpu.

No, the GTX 1060 is a touch better.

You might consider leaving out the optical drive. If you ever need one, they are not that expensive and easily added.

You can overclock your unlocked CPU (due to the letter ‘K’ in the name: i7 8700K) with this motherboard (all ‘Z’ designated boards: Z370).

Overall, is this a solid build? Seems like these parts can do exactly what I want. Gaming with high performance, recording/editing videos, streaming, and productivity.

What's your final budget & what do you want to actually do with it?

As it stands, you have more CPU than your GPU can use by about 150 USD, but the 8700k is a good platform for future upgrades. Why a couple of 21" monitors?

So Intel is apparently skipping 10nm and going to 7. Just like I said they should, just like @CDemerjian said they should, and just like @BenBajarin said they should. It’s almost like analysts who follow this stuff know what they’re talking about.

So, this is definitely still "rumor" territory, but maybe Intel finally pulled the actual trigger they should have 2 years ago. I still assume we get the reworked 10nm++ as Intel's first HVM 10nm products, but that could easily fall into 2021 at this rate.

Are we really about to re-run the early 2000s and Netburst from Intel?

I'm confused... I have more CPU than my GPU can use by about $150 USD? What that mean?

You'll get the same gaming performance with an 8100 or an 8400. That's what we mean when the build is "unbalanced".

But only unbalanced for a gaming system. If video editing is a significant use, then the system is reasonable.
