R9 295x2 Crypto-mining Power Consumption Optimization

dlscientist

Hi, I am a beginner bitcoin miner and I am using the most recent version of Nicehash miner legacy. I have an EVGA Hybrid gtx 1080 right now that can make from (USD) $1 to $1.30 mining at half power using MSI Afterburner's power target slider . I used the power target slider and moved it as far down as it can go ( 50% ). I was wondering if you can do the same for a R9 295x2. I know that the card has 2 gpu's in it. Here is what I want to know:

1. Does the AMD R9 295x2 have an option to consume less power similar to the gtx 1080 in MSI afterburner or some other similar software ( like amd's overdrive or wattman ) ?

2. If #1 exists, what is the lowest percentage you can set the power target to for the gpus on this board?

Extra: What is a better way to optimize this card for mining?

The best way to optimize it for mining is to undervolt it to reduce heat output and power consumption.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this, but the R9 295X2, while having two GPUs on its PCB, acts as one GPU and is detected that way by the system so theoretically, changes made to it will affect both GPUs on the PCB.

Any bitcoin mining you do on GPUs is losing you money.

It's also degrading the cards and accelerating their failure.

Especially on a card that power hungry. I've seen reports saying it'll go up to 500W(not sure how true those are or what circumstances).

Ok then, what software can I use to under volt the card easly. Can it be done in msi afterburner?

Yeah, but I wouldn't recommend using that card for mining.

Even undervolted, you're gonna pull 200W+ easily.
