Well, I think my usb drive is about to die or is dead

TheGamingHD

So, I have had the sandisk ultra 128GB for about a year and 3 quarters and today for whatever reason my read speeds are around 50 Bytes - 30KB per second, even on different usb ports and including usb 2, 3 and 3.1. RIP.

Edit: in some folders i can get about 20MB/s so maybe it still has a chip or 2 that are not broken?

Edit 2: I can still see my files on it is this normal?

Hello TheGamingHD,

Try to format the drive in fat32 and check again if problem persist.

Removing Partitions with Microsoft DiskPart:

  1. In the Start menu, type cmd, and then click the entry for the cmd program.
  2. At the command prompt, enter diskpart (you might have to approve this operation as an administrator). The prompt line should now display "DISKPART".
  3. Enter list disk.
  4. Enter select disk X, where X is the number of your selected disk.
  5. Enter clean.
  6. Enter create partition primary.
  7. Enter select partition 1.
  8. Enter active.
  9. Enter format fs=fat32.
  10. Enter assign.
  11. Enter exit.
