Rift or Vive in 2018

Curufinwe_wins

Hiya all

Really thinking about moving into a VR experience here, and want to know which you all think is the better buy. Not willing to spend 800 on a vive pro, but other than that, the price difference isn't a huge deal.

I don't have the most space (say 10ft by 6ft) atm, but I will probably use it mostly for sitting experiences anyways. My pc can handle the challenge.

I got a vive about 3 months ago and its sweet. Super easy to set up and comes with all the accessories - unlike the oculus where you need to buy an extra camera

Watch out for the trackpad problem, that's a monster.

There's a known issue with the Vive where the trackpad will lose tracking capabilities.

As you can see from an internet search, it's known enough that there are a bunch of fixes for it. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=vive+trackpad+problem&t=ffab&ia=web

I don't recall the specifics of the problem, but you can probably find those easily.

Alright, well thanks for bringing it to my attention - I've yet to find *many* problems, but itll probably show up sooner or later.

If you're using it mostly for seated games, look into the Samsung Odyssey WMR headset.

It's the same resolution as the Vive Pro but it's way cheaper.

The controller tracking isn't nearly as good as it relies on the front facing cameras to track the controllers but if you're playing cockpit games it isn't much of an issue and can still do roomscale just not nearly as well
