Monitor around $200

Callas

Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me pick out a monitor for my new PC setup. It's based around a GTX 1060 and i5-8400.

I will use it for some work in Photoshop (though it's not my livelyhood obviously) and some gaming (mostly RTS games).

My budget is around $200.

I'm not interested in a fast refresh rate, I'm not an FPS player. But I would love the best possible image quality this kind of money can buy :) So probably an IPS panel, but I hear that VA panels are also good (I havent bought a monitor in like 6 years so Im not up to date :)

I kind of like this one but Im not sure if its good value for money.

Thank you very much!

I'd be tempted by one of these as you say you want image quality - I don't know your GPU, but a 1440P at 24" would give a good sharp image, all 4 are IPS

Hi, thanks for the tips!

My GPU will be GTX 1060 so I'm not sure if it's good enough for 1440p.

Yeah like @stealth80 said, your setup should handle 1440p for those workflows, although don't expect to game on highest settings necessarily.

you're good - especially for your game types as you don't need crazy FPS and they aren't terribly demanding on the GPU - 1440P at 24" + IPS will offer pretty good sharpness imo - I would look at specific reviews from the 4 I listed to find out which has the better quality

Cool, thanks! I will check them out in more detail then.

Also just so I have a better understanding. What matters for image quality is mostly just the resolution? What other parameters should I focus on?

But how do I judge the panel quality? Is there some benchmarking site where I can compare selected models?

Also I currently have 21,5 inch 1080p monitor. If I go 1440p on 24 inches wont everything be way smaller then Im used to?

You can adjust the windows settings to scale it up. Just look at reviews for the monitors

Isn't there a sRGB color gamut thing for monitors or something?

@Callas Cheapest you'll find right now... https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-ultrasharp-u2518d-25-ips-led-qhd-monitor-black/6111217.p?skuId=6111217 Open box ul' knock it down to $214.99. It's regularly priced at $349.99(probably because it's IPS) so it's the best bang for your buck right now. You just missed this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-l24q-20-23-8-ips-led-qhd-monitor-silver/5747424.p?skuId=5747424 all last week for $149.99. So if you're a little patient you might find one around $149.99 again pretty soon. You can't beat 1440p for $149.99 these days.
