My Mobo: MSI Z97 GAMING 3 (MS-7918)

My CPU: Intel Core i5 4440 @ 3.10GHz

If I wanted to upgrade my CPU to something Newer than my i5 4440, what are my options? Price Limit would probably be around $350.00 USD.

My computer is Primarily used for gaming I have 16GB Dual-Channel DDR3 Memory
my GPU is a 4095MB GTX970 ACX SSC 2.0+

Try finding a used 4790K - any other CPU upgrade would require a change of motherboard and RAM as well, landing you easily in the $600 range

Why would it require a change of Mobo and RAM? I just got my MOBO back in December?

Anything after the Z97 chipset uses DDR4 RAM and a different CPU socket

Your actual build runs on z97 chipset, which supports gen 4 CPU (like the one you are using and 4770 and 4790)

Newer Intel CPUs run on newer chipset and require DDR4 RAM and z370 chipset etc...

a 4770 or 4790k should fit you well for a couple years

Question is what game makes you think you need to upgrade your cpu ?

i5 and a gtx 970 is not a bad combo...

Are you having issues with a specific game ?

As all have stated so far the i7 4770K and i7 4790k overclocked should give a total new breath of life to your PC...

You could also try an i7 5775C if you're feeling like hunting down one for a bit of even further performance as that's the best CPU you could possible upgrade to though this one is a tad rare to find.

I am just worried that I wont be able to play games in the up coming 2019, 2020 years with the CPU I have seeing how it is a bit of an older CPU. It only has 4 Cores and no hyper-threading, I also try and stream from time to time, and some games will Max out my current CPU while also trying to stream them, resulting in dropped frames.

Like other suggested before me, 4770 and 4790 is your only upgrade possible with your current platform RAM and BOARD

4790K would be the best to get and should cost you around 200$ used... :)

And Yes the 4790k will be enough with your gtx 970 for a good while as long as you don't aim for high end resolution with ultra settings and 144 fps etc.. you know what i mean :P at like 1080p medium 60 fps there will be no problem for 95% of games :)  and many will run ultra :)

in 2019 2020 who knows... can't predict, but will probably still perform nicely but heh if you want ot follow the upgrades all the time expectr to change every 3-6 months all ur hardware lol :)  costy
