Modem will not let me connect directly

Yah, that's a modem only device. You need a router such as the Airport, or a different router, directly connected to it and then the switch for it to work properly.

You should be able to access it by going to 192.168.100.1 though

Unless you might have use for it elsewhere, yah. Just get a different router instead if possible.

i just tested this when the switch was used as a buffer between the airport and the modem it made my pc internet faster. when i took the switch out it slowed back down

Are they extremely long? All Ethernet cables experience signal degradation over long distances.

When you say that your internet is faster, how do you measure that? Does if feel faster or you did a speedtest? What was the difference? And we're speaking about wired speed right? When you're not using the switch, is the PC connected in one of the LAN port on the Airport (There's a small <...> symbol above them I think)?

 

And as Lurick said you definitely need a router instead of a switch, I would return it If I were you. Why can't you use the airport though? It IS a router.

maybe your modem is locked to the airport`s MAC Address. it happend to my and i had to call my isp but i have a fiber optic modem/ONT
