Any advice on losing weight?

4 minutes ago, Froody129 said:

Eat less more often. You don't have to do tons of exercise; it's amazing for overall 'feeling good' but not necessary just to lose weight. If you eat salad 4 times a day you'll lose weight really quickly. Also only drink water - and lots of it.

Overall I believe that it is much more effective to focus on how you feel rather than just the number on the scale. A lot of diets work but it's not something you want to keep up for a long time.

You also need to eat shit tons of protein or else your body will start feeding on its own muscle! You don’t bloody want that

I suppose. But my point is to eat in non-shit manner and without a lot of effort you will lose a bunch of weight and feel better

That's an F in the profile pic

1) BMR is BS. That's why most doctors don't use it anymore.

2) Look into how insulin works. :)

1) Actually, they still use it.  It's only problematic if you don't take in other factors too, like muscle, water weight, and genetics.  Soley relying on it is BS, yes. I will agree to that.

2)  That's only if you don't burn it, though.

Um, excessive protein can also turn to fat.  If I were to sit on my ass and drink whey supplements all day I'd put on fat.

I think we were maybe on different pages. I guess I wasn't clear. I just meant in general don't suggest starting the day out with milk if it's high in sugar (obviously not all of it is), because the person may try to do that but not exercise. It's potentially a step backwards. That's what I meant when I said "be careful" rather than "don't do that".

Okay, so I am at 1600 k calories.  I then drink 4 six star whey supplement servings, right?  1600+180+180+180+180=2320 which is above my calorie needs.  I now put on a mix of water weight and fat, not muscle.

Now, if you were to burn that back down to a deficit then yes or if you stay in the deficit then yes.  I would honestly suggest protein over sugar, though.  But, lots of supplements do have sugar and other crap in them too.

To be able to take in fewer kcal than you are used to, and not letting your hunger take over in some situations, would you suggest eating few, medium sized meals or more, smaller sized meals during a day?

Honestly, I'd suggest eating balanced meals that keep you at a 5% to 20% deficit.  Meal size is kinda meaningless because different foods have a different amount of calories.  The best method, imo, is to just go over serving sizes+calorie amounts.  Also, decrease your sugar intake.  Instead of soda maybe drink flavored seltzer water as each can usually has 0 calories.  Instead of pork maybe eat lean beef or chicken and turkey.  Add more greens/veggies or veggies that aren't starchy.  Eat oatmeal and/or eggs for breakfast.  Use olive oil over common fried oils.  Grains are also very good for you. If you plan to snack on something, like chocolate, eat dark over milk and don't eat it daily.  Replacing sugar with protein is the best way to avoid hunger.  If you give into a craving just make sure you burn the excess off otherwise it stores.

Well, if you have calorie surplus then of course your body will turn it into fat but I am talking about cutting muscle mass lost while losing weight. I just don’t see how fat can increase. It can stay the same if the body is burning 100% protein which is impossible because body likes to burn energy from all three sources of protein, carb, and fat but increasing is like purely violating the laws of physics.

My my diet plan has the following calories:

1L milk = 400. 3 eggs = 210

Salad with fat and vinegar I ball park it at 230.

28 oz chicken breasts = 658 calories

together is 1498 calories. For 2400 standard recommendation for adult male, that is enough to be burning fat, instead of gaining.

lower weight = lower metabolic rate

And, not giving your body enough calories to function leads to health issues, a much lower than normal metabolic rate, and much more muscle loss.

It's a sugar thing for me.

Yes I down fuck tons of soda if I want to, but I don't always. A can a day can actually make a difference for me. If I cut out completely vs a little here and there I see a big difference. Oddly coffee with creamer and stuff doesn't seem to affect it much, so that's ok for me, but hot coffee makes my stomach upset often so I tend to resort to soda for caffeine.

Provided your body doesn't go into starvation mode (which it would) you could lose half a kilogram a day just from not eating. Natural chemical processes in the body can vary your weight massively in a single day, which is why it is recommended to always weigh yourself at the same time of day.

Say that to my body which dropped 10KG in 2~ weeks :P

Ate about 200kcals/day while walking about 4 miles~/day@4.5mph~ seemed to do the trick. Oh, I continued to drop after that as well, just slightly slower but I was also eating 750-1200kcals/day so not surprising?

If the human body intakes less than 1200 k calories to function it goes into starvation mode.

Oh damn, my body has been in starvation mode for 2~ years, that doesn't sound too good. Maybe that's why I piled on 9KG in 4 months due to eating 1.2-1.7K kcals/day (before, I kept it sub-1K).

On the brightside, although I'm still eating 1.2-1.3K kcals/day, I've started to lose weight again (already went from 65.5~ to 64), which is good as my ideal is 57-58KG with an ideal upper of 60KG. I know my ideal is a little too low for my height (180cm) but it just bothers me when I'm over 60KG. In my defence, 2.5 years ago, I was 85KG, 170cm and was always 'overweight' since I can remember (was a 4.2KG baby xD) meaning every single time I gain weight, my mind goes into "lose weight" mode (which wasn't possible for those 4 months due to a little bit of sleep deprivation and thus constant cravings for sugar).

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

While the name is not the best used/dramatic people misunderstand starvation mode.  The thing is the human body needs a set of its own intake to burn in order to function properly.  When you go under that point what happens is you start to lose more muscle than fat, your metabolism decreases more than it should, and you can develop other health issues.

Here it is explained more.

Now, if you were to choose to go under that 1200 point you should talk to a doctor first rather than just doing it.  Chris Hemsworth went down to 500 per day to look extra "skinny" for a movie.

Here is my advice, don't listen to advice from random strangers on a tech forum.

There is a lot of pseudo-science when it comes to weight loss. A lot of people think their way is the best, despite maybe not having that much science or proof that it actually works.

That is complete and utter bullshit. Fat is an energy reserve, and 'starvation mode' is bro science garbage.

I won't comment on "Starvation mode", but the comment about the weight of water and muscle being more than fat? Correct.

Water has the density of 997 kg/m³. Human muscle: 1060 kg / m³. Human fat: 900 kg / m³.

What does this mean? Well it means that both Muscle and Water do indeed weigh more than fat does.

The most sensible comment that I have heard so far in this whole discussion :-D
