Significant price reduction for 970 pro (and a smaller one for 970 evo)

According to PCWorld, the Samsung 970 pro 1TB will cost 500$ instead of 630$, thats a 130$ price reduction. The 512GB version will cost 250$ instead of 330$.

Quote with regards to the price reduction for 970 pro:

Quote

Those are steep cuts, and they aren’t listed as sale prices either. B&H Photo lists the 512GB and 1TB drives at the original higher prices, but is offering “Instant Savings” deals that bring actual prices in line with Newegg’s.

The 970 EVO reductions are as follows:

Quote

So it is a marginal reduction, but still worth noting.

samsung-970-primary-100755766-large.jpg.308bc9dce08a010d8533b00fb1f171ab.jpg

I was personally planing on purchasing the 1TB 960 evo for 450$, but now that the pro version 970 costs 130 less, I think will be reconsidering it.

Dang, SSDs are getting pretty cheap. More reason to stick that on my upgrade list for this year.

Indeed, I hope the trend continues. I wonder if 2019 will be the golden year of PC building, maybe 2020. Time will tell.

Marginally significant.

Maybe put the 970 pro info in a quote box, easy to miss.

Agreed, helps to avoid the confusion

Edit: edited the topic to reflect the delineation between 970 Pro and 970 EVO more clearly

It is true that regular SATA SSD's are more affordable, I think the form factor of m.2's however is equally attractive (not to mention file movement speeds). Less cable clutter is always a big plus I believe.

Less costly does not necessarily mean cheap.  For may part, call me when SSDs are in the $180 range for 500GB.  I've been strongly suggesting people only buy the 240/256GB models around the $100 mark as more than that is fairly asinine IMO(Professionals needing more are obviously different), and the same is true for 500GB models.

As far as I see it they're just gouging less, and not soo much that these are 'cheap'.

Not to mention the ability to add a 2.5" drive later on in those tiny PC cases that only have 1 or a few drive slots anyway. (Like a laptop)

Cool. 970 evo wasn't a performance improvement over the 960 evo so it's nice to see them cut the price at least.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

It should be noted that these reductions are for NVMe drives. You can already get a new SATA SSD for less than that. (For instance the 500GB 860 Evo is $159.99 USD for m.2) (Unless you mean CND or AUD)

I do mean CND, AKA Canadian Pesetas.  And as for SSD or M.2, I'm indifferent.  If M.2 wants to supplant SSDs then that means they've got to hit the money metric despite being superior.  It's not like SATA SSDs are as bad as HDDs.

Just reminded me I need to get a new SSD, interestingly can get the 970 evo 250GB for £100 approx, while the slower 960 evo 250GB is approx £108, so cheaper for the newer faster model :D
