Cooling my I5-8600K

NotFestiveOwl

Hello.

I had a thot(i know) to put in my ASUS Z370-F mobo a Noctua d15, the thing is I’m scared it won’t fit or will block my ram sticks, also what are the temperatures I’ll be getting with my I5-8600K at 3.8 GHz?

Danke

It will fit on the motherboard, if it will fit over your RAM depends on what RAM you're getting. But you can move up the fan a little bit if it is in the way. I would  advise you just look up the RAM kit you have plus that cooler and see if anyone has made a PC with that before.

But on temps, we have no idea what you will get, as it will entirely depend on how you do in the silicon lottery (not all CPU's are made equally, some overclock better and may run cooler or vice versa) and we also do not know your ambient temperatures (basically how hot or cold it is where you are living).

I have CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX BLACK CL15 2400MHz and I have 4 of those, i only saw a build with LP are they the same build?

LP is the DDR3 predecessor of the LPX series, which is DDR4. They are basically the same size and basically the smallest RAM there is.

On PCPartPicker, I found someone's build with a D15 and LPX memory: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/ccyXsY

On the second last picture, you can see the cooler overhangs the memory and is not interfering at all with it.

This person even mentions this:

I had concerns the Noctua fan would not fit well or cool well enough or allow clearance for ram, but everything fits perfectly, with a little breathing room on all sides!

That memory will work fine with the cooler.

I've made same mistake on assumption. LP was lower than normal, but LPX is just normal height. There are lower ones, but they aren't really needed with standard air coolers.

3.8ghz is low. The 8600k already turbos up to 4.3ghz at stock and you can easily push for 4.5ghz+ while keeping temps below 80c at load.

I know, but I’m not like a “psycho” like you guys, I may only need the CPU at like max 4GHz

In that case, the NH-D15 is overkill especially for a 8600k. You're effectively aiming for stock speeds.

If you just want something quiet for stock speeds, PR Slim: http://oreol.lv/lv/shop/be-quiet-pure-rock-slim-cpu-cooler-1150-1151-1155-1156-am2-am3-fm1-2-detail.html

If you want some more headroom for oc'ing, Kotetsu: http://datori.dataleks.lv/lv/item/cpu-coolers-dzesetaji:58954

FYI, Asus Multicore Enhancement will be enabled by default on your motherboard which is effectively an auto-oc that calls for more voltage than necessary and can cause high temps. I'd suggest turning this off and setting your core voltage / oc manually if you want to oc.

You listed your location which shows up under your profile pic--at least on desktop. It's very helpful :)

Hello!

Now I am going to overclock my CPU for I5-8600K, and what cooler should I buy for 75-80C temps, also is 65 degrees too much to ask?

I will be clocking mine at 4GHz (I know, I can go higher, but I don’t need to.)

Also what woltage should I put it in?

My room temps are around 24degrees celcius, no idea what about humidity..

For air coolers: Noctua D15, Dark Rock Pro 3, or Cryorig R1 Universal

For AIO's (depends on case config/budget): Corsair H100i v2, Corsair H105, Kraken X62, Corsair Pro series, etc. There are a lot of good AIOs.

When you actually go to overclock, a youtube guide will go step by step.

i5-6600k (4.6) | Dark Rock 3 | MSI GAMING X 1060 6GB | 8GB DDR4 | 120GB SSD & 1TB HDD | Crystal 460x

 | Acer GN246HL 1080p 24" 144hz & Acer G246HL 1080p 24" 60hz |

PSU Tier List | PC Partpickers: US Canada Australia UK

How much were you planning on spending on a cooler? The air coolers I suggested will perform similarly to the AIO's. For example, I have my 6600k OCed to 4.6ghz with the smaller version of the Dark Rock Pro 3.

Other good coolers that are less than $50 include the Scythe Fuma, Scythe Mugen, or Cryorig H5 Ultimate

You should have started with budget, case and RAM. Not with what performance you expect. Temps will depend on voltage used and voltage depends on how good chip you have. 4GHz is not really impressive clocks, you probably can get to that with stock volts (1.1V).

75-80C under stress would be budget cooler range. For low-70C or lower you are going to need at least 140mm tower or bigger.
