Ryzen 2600X running hotter than it should?

I just put my pc together yesterday and I have a ryzen 2600x along with a msi x470 gaming plus motherboard. I have installed a mugen 5 rev. B and use the pea sized drop of thermal past on the cpu during installation. I am getting 40-50 °C during idle reports from Hwinfo, Ryzen Master, MSI control center, and MSI afterburner. It then reads 60-70°C when i start to play any game. I even had a game in the main menu, using 7% cpu power, and the temps shot to 67°C.Does anyone know if these temps are normal with a Mugen 5? I figured they would be better, but perhaps I didn't install it correctly or the motherboard isn't giving the correct temps. Thanks for any help. :)

67C is not hot at all

I don't think that 67 °C  is hot, but I think it should be doing better with a mugen 5 rev b. These are about the temps that some people have said they are getting with the stock wraith cooler.

I would guess it depends on how you configured the BIOS / motherboard to adjust fan rpm with the temperature.

 

If the system is set to keep the temperature below 70c then the motherboard will not make an effort to increase fan rpm as long as temperature stays below 70c.

So you may have 70c with the stock cooler and fan running at 2000 rpm for example, and you may have now 67c but fan spins only at 500 rpm and is more silent.

 

If you want to make comparisons, lock the fan speed to 100% or some other percentage.

I actually set it to always run at 100% no matter the temps, so my fan is always reporting that it is running at about 1200RPM.

Even with a AIO and it slightly overclocked you will be in the 70-80 temps.  Your Temps are fine, I am running a R7 1700 at 3.8 with a H105 and my temps are around 75 on full load.

Ok. I guess I won't worry about it. Just another question but would buying a better fan, perhaps a noctua, help increase the temps, or would it a make a small difference that isn't worth it?

Under normal, stock operation, you'll likely only notice a difference of a few degrees. Hower, if you overclock your CPU, than you will be able to get better temperatures with a decent air cooler than with the stock cooler. The stock cooler isn't bad by any means but something like a Noctua will give you better temps under load, especially when overclocked.

OK, so i think get it. there will be no major differences between the wraith and an aftermarket cooler with stock clock settings, but when trying to overclock and push the cpu further, I will see a larger margin between the two coolers' performance. Is that correct?
