If Google finally launches YouTube Remix, a rumored music subscription service, it will retire its 7-year-old music streaming service, Droidlife reported Tuesday. That could come as soon as the end of the year, with Google Play Music users being pushed onto the new service, a source tells the site.

Google's YouTube noted that it had previously announced the combination of YouTube Music and Google Play Music product teams but nothing about retiring Google Play Music.

Google has said they will warn there users before any major changes

Remix, which would feature on-demand streaming and incorporate video clips from YouTube, was expected to launch in March, Bloomberg reported in December. The still as-yet-unannounced service would mark Google-parent Alphabet's third attempt to challenge rivals Apple and Spotify.

Google has a reported 1.5 million YouTube Red subs right now but Spotify has 71 million paying users and Apple has around 38 millions users, so even after 2 years of aggressive promotion they are no were near these two giant streaming platforms even if they are offering all of youtube content not just music.

I do use google alot but music is one of the few things were I prefer something else, for music spotify is just way better imo and with discord and Google home integration also, it is really nice. And like @Apextier pointed out the UI sucks.

I'd say it's the best for freeware, and better than alot of paid software. Certainly leagues better than any streaming service.

Fair point but I personally think Google is best to go back to the drawing board on their music streaming service. Sounds like this new rumored replacement might be just that!

Lol now I feel lonely... I'm subscribed because I watch YouTube videos a lot everyday on my phone. The YouTube Music app is nice in my opinion, too. I've discovered new artists by playing customs stations built based on what I've listened to. :)

I made the switch to Google Play music from Spotify and it's worse. I initially made the switch cas I wanted to listen to music on my Wear OS watch while jogging with no phone, I ended up sending the watch back buying a £100 more expensive watch (Samsung Gear Sport), which supports offline spotify, all because Google Play Music has nothing on spotify. I mean they don't even have an official desktop app! Their UI is worse, they don't have some neat features like Daily mixes that spotify offers, and when I play a 'radio' from a band I like I just find that Spotify will play more music that I enjoy

That's just my 2cents on Google Play Music, the kind of thing you probably would think is fine if you hadn't previously used spotify
