is game performance increased when playing off SSD but HDD for boot drive

just got a shiny new SSD,

I have tons of data that I cannot afford to mess with which is on my main drive (HDD)

 

Is game performance increased when on an SSD that is not a boot drive?

Performance like raw FPS numbers, no.

However that doesn't mean it's useless.

Loading times for example can drop by quite a bit for example when your game is on an SSD.

Yes, in a way. Because only the loading time will improve (of game itself).

 

Always put your OS onto SSD and everything else that requires a lot of space onto HDD.

Yup. As everyone said.

Beside load times of games, if the game streams textures and models instead of preloading them, you can have reduced pop-in's with an SSD. But that is about it

I don't have a specific suggestion but there are various tools out there that can transfer HD to SSD keeping everything as it was. Once you are happy the SSD copy is fine you can re-use the HD.

 

I can't give a software recommendation as I use a solution that comes with hardware (SATA wire).

It improves your load times but not FPS. Put your OS on SSD and anything large (like games) on a hybrid/hdd. I'd go with the hybrid because then the stuff you put on mass storage that you frequently use will be loaded much faster, meaning your most played games will load almost as if they're being loaded from an ssd.
