Removing a Soldered Dedicated GPU in Laptop

thekingrenz23

Hey Guys First time posting here actually first time coming over why not ask questions to linus forums haha

So I decided to remove my dedicated laptop gpu which is soldered by the way!

Why would i remove it?

The reason for this is the GPU is already broken im not using it tho it is connected i disabled it from my Device Manager

for some reason it causes heat to my laptop even if i disabled it. I tried not applying thermal paste to the gpu and my laptop will shutdown cause of an overheat! Sounds Right?

So I hope i can have better temps if i remove it cause Im a programmer ya know i like to program everytime not turning my laptop of haha Thanks in advance

Removing a soldered gpu without causing damage to the motherboard requires special (and expensive) tools. It's also possible the computer will refuse to turn on without the gpu. Don't do it.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

this is an awful idea, the laptop probably wont work without the gpu installed, but if you really wanted to do it youd need a hot air soldering station

Not only bios. Laptops boards are very complicated and removing one part can cause unknown issues in the other side of the board.
I wouldn't try anything like that without board schematics (good luck getting those) and a lot of experience in BGA soldering and component level repair.
