difference between kaby and coffee

hello,what's the difference between Kaby lake and Coffee lake? Both have 8th gen processors,dual core,quad core...what's the point of this demarcaion?I heard Coffee lake are newer processors,but well...Kaby have new 8th gen processors too,right? Intel® Core™ i5-8400 Processor  is Coffee lake processor,but why?Why it's not Kaby lake?They have 8th gen processors too.Obviously I don't know some information and I don't know how or where to find it.Just the thing which confuses me is both Kaby and Coffee lake have i5 8th gen and i3 8th gen,but the thing which I noticed is Kaby's limit is quad cores,meanwhile Coffee have six core processors

the difference is more cores across the board

i3 8100 is 4c 4t, while on kaby lake an i5 would be 4c 4t

i5 8600 is 4c 8t, while on kaby that would be an i7

i7 8700k is 6c 12t, which would've been enthusiast (x299) 

 

also slightly higher base clock speeds and maybe 50mhz faster iGPU, no IPC gain, just mainly more physical cores.

Correction: i5 8600 is 6c 6t

They can also clock a lot higher, many users can get the i7-8700k to clock above 5.0GHz with some getting up to around 5.5GHz
