Samsung 860 Evo or Crucial MX500

D-man747

I am looking at 2 SSD’s for my computer. The 1TB Samsung 860 Evo or the 1TB Crucial MX500. Speeds look pretty similar but the thing I’m concerned about is reliability because I only have space for one drive and this will hold ALL of my files. Should I get the Samsung for about 50 dollars more or the Crucial?

crucial. not like it's a usb key or anything, it'll be plenty enough. i'd generally only spend more if you're upgrading from sata to nvme

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I'd get Samsung one. It uses MLC rather than MX500's TLC, which should help it last longer. That said, even the MX500 should be good for 200+ TB of total writes.

MX500 unless the 860 evo is the same price, the 860 evo don't perform much better than the MX500.

No it doesn't. The Samsung 860 Evo and Crucial MX500 are both 3D TLC.

@OP there's very little difference between the drives, just get the cheaper one.

Get the MX500. Similar warranty and lifespan.
