Many schools have rules against cell phones, but judging from posts on social media, nothing can stop students from booting up the ruthless shooter. Everyone is playing it, teens say, so schools have tried to ban it. It’s a huge enough problem that some schools are reportedly having Wi-Fi problems as teens try their best to survive the battle royale through shared networks. People are fighting over the game, or they’re ignoring schoolwork. In some schools, it’s all Fortnite all the time now:

this seems to be affecting all middle and high school to some extent, For example the local Middle school runs on Surfaces 3 and kids having been playing fortnite on there for months, and more recently with the release of mobile some students are refusing to do work, and even today some kids wouldn't take a quiz till they finished there match. I think this will lead to school beginning to ban personal tech and closing the noose on there school provided devices.

Time to go back to the ole Pokemon/Yugioh card battles. Hasn't games in classes been a problem in general for a while? When I was last in HS/MS, plenty of the students were already doing this but with random web games. (Stickman golf?)

there's multiple groups of people at my school who play fortnite on their iPads.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Its wide spread in my school. Everyone plays it across all grades and both genders.

That being said, it does not hurt the school system. Phones should not be used during class unless instructed (that being said most teachers at my HS let the more advanced classes keep our phones out on our desks and interact with them as long as we get our work done and don't ignore the teachers when they are talking)

Our schools network gets hit hard during breaks and have failed from normal use before.

This game does not change anything.

Just be like my school where there must be a Faraday cage around school because there's no signal in any classroom.

Yeah are school is full of alot of rich kids who feel entitled to do as pleased, like I mentioned above people at my school don't take quizzes until they are done with matches in some extreme cases, but like you said I have found that pretty much everyone plays no matter age, gender, or "Status" because cool kids have started interacting more with "nerds" to get carried and to get wins.

Thats my school. Every building drops me down to 3G or even EXTENDED service. Very few rooms pick up the LTE bands from Sprint T.T

Thankfully our Wi-Fi is fast and generally reliable.

Oh also did I forget to mention we're not allowed to use our phones in school? Well, sixth formers can (year 12 and 13), no one else can.

we're not supposed to either, we just do it secretly to check the time or something

you can get a quick message in here and there but that's about it.

Its just as likely that the networks were already running at their limits due to skimping on hardware significantly (and not using different channels where possible).

You say that as if NO teenager as EVER made every effort to discretly break the rules in school. o.O

Maybe things have changed when I was in high school and teenagers are all now meticulous rule following and obediant, but 'back in my day' you just had to not get CAUGHT breaking the rules.

The network hardware is good enough for students to be playing Fortnite on it,should more than enough for actual school work.  Thats usually how it works anyway lol, if the whole building network doesn't slow to a crawl it doesn't get upgraded.

When I was in high school if you got caught using your phone in class enough, the teacher could take it away and you had to have a parent come get it back at the end of the day. If the kids can't wait until after classes to play Fortnite their phones shouldn't be allowed on the wifi. Although a year after I graduated everyone got Chromebooks, which more than likely get used for games when teachers aren't looking.
