you shouldn't be buying FX, 550ti and 2.5" HDD for $260 (assuming USD)

used prebuilt sandy/ivy/haswell!

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

If you're concerned about that stuff, just reset/reinstall windows again.

At most, it's like a $30 surcharge if you can't find your key (on grey market sites).

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Tell him that you will wipe all the storage drives, so none of those virus or porn can stay. Dont tell him that there are many out there in the Internet anyway, that's gonna make things worse.

laptop drives are 2.5", rather than 3.5" desktop form factor. They work the same however.

High frequency doesnt mean it's faster. There's also a factor called IPC, instruction per clock. It's like a multiplier to clock speed, which gives the final number: performance. AMD's FX scores horribly in terms of IPC, that's why an FX 8350 at 4.8GHz couldnt keep up with an i5-2500 (non-K) at 3.3GHz despite having twice the number of cores and higher clock speed.

2 or 3 times faster than that fx if both are overclocked, depending on the application.

In basic compute the difference is already massive, when you add game inoptimization and trash ipc the fx is done.

Leaves you enough money to find a used GTX 750 Ti, RX 550, maybe RX 560 or GTX 1050 if you're lucky.

The thing is that intel CPUs age well. I used the same i3 laptop as a main pc for 4 years and a 2ndary for another 2 equaling 6 years of use. Get it then later on upgrade to a i7 3770k (which can be had for around $200) used. Then flip the i5 3570k for around $100. Even now this system is a good value

You bring up a very good point there that I didn't realize til now. @Zacspark how old are you? I say this because if you are younger, decision making can sometimes be bad due to lack of maturity. I know that when I was younger I made some bad decisions (I was more mature than others but still) both purchasing wise and other things in my life. Heck even now at 19 and in college I can make some stupid decisions (its nothing compared to when I was 12-14ish). You may want to hold off on buying until you do research and maybe? save more money.

Not saying that the build OP is looking at is a good value, just that all PC gamers are sort of in "survival mode" right now due to the shortages.

Actually the 770 was purchased during the mining crisis and cheapo ddr3 is still cheapo ddr3.  Though yeah, people are willing to spend more than they want to to get gpus especially rn
