''4K Netflix streaming launching next month''

TopWargamer

http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/12/19/5226736/netflix-4k-streaming-announcement-ces-2014

Netflix will start streaming movies and TV shows in 4K soon, but only to certain TVs. "We're not naming specific manufacturers," Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt tells Stuff, "but we have several of the major TV vendors who are going to be producing 4K-capable TVs — they'll be announcing them at CES [in early January]." The high-resolution streams won't be coming to all 4K TVs, though, and will initially come to select new sets that have Netflix pre-installed. Hunt says that the feature may "eventually" come to Xbox One and PS4, but notes that the standards necessary to enable 4K streaming are "just a a little premature" right now.

I'm all for 4K streaming, but there's 1 major problem here: Few people have the Internet speeds to do it. Well, I shouldn't say 1 major problem, because there is the problem of 4K TVs being so damn expensive. Maybe at CES this year we'll get word of affordable 4K TVs, who knows.

Great,now i only need a 4k monitor and a fiber internet connection.

Don't forget that the fiber has to be without a bandwidth cap, because a 4k movie is likely to be scratching 100GB :)

question is... is it restricted to 4K resolution detected by the software... that would suck.

4k should look lovely on 1080p monitors :) I dont know why people are so complaining. 1080p streams losing quality because of compression. It should look at least better.

I want to know what king of content they will be streaming at 4k. There is not much out there at the moment. I think they might just upscale 1080p content and market it as 4k.

What sort of down-stream will someone even need for this? Can't help but think of all the poor service ISP's in the USA that limit people watching Netflix just on SD.
