Combined some old(er) parts with some new(er) parts.

Dell Inspiron 530

Core 2 Duo 6300 1.86GHz

3GB DDR2 ram

MSI GTX 760 2GB OC

Thermaltake 750w PSU (which is honestly by far the loudest component in the system, even at idle ). 

 

Total cost: $85 ($60 for GPU and $25 for the PSU). Unbalanced? Heck yeah, but it's just for mining anyways.

Ahh! Another Core 2 DUo system being classified as old(er)! AHHHH! Am I seriously the only one who still thinks they're fabulous?

I consider them old(er), but still decently capable for basic use by today's standards.

 

Have a Q6600 to put into this machine, but it won't run with it installed for some reason. I updated the BIOS and the chip was tested when I bought it locally just yesterday (I saw it working with my own eyes), yet it won't work in this machine. It is a supported CPU for this motherboard, so not sure why it won't work.  Any thoughts?

 

When I put it in, it won't POST, it just runs all the fans at max speed and does nothing (blank screen).

I still think they're wonderful. I've got plenty. Have you tried different RAM? I've experienced odd RAM causing issues.

It does have 3GB ram with 3x 1GB sticks taking up 3 of the 4 slots. I'll check and see if they're all the same brand, clocks and CL. I have a feeling the previous owner(s) at some point added a stick or two that maybe didn't match. Odd that it works fine with the Core 2 Duo and not the Core 2 Quad. Certain hardware can definitely be picky though, for sure.  Will experiment and see if that's the issue. Thanks.

Eh, my OptiPlex 760 USFF supports C2D's just fine but not my Q6600, though I think it supports a Q8400 because why the hell not.

With 2 PC's going (3 CPUs and 2 GPUs) it barely made any difference. So with one more PC (using GPU only), it won't be much worse.  

 

It helps to reduce the GPU power limit to 60%, which I don't think too many people realise you can do without sacrificing hash rates.

The repaired+slightly upgraded ( new motherboard VRM caps+better CPU+1x more Voodoo2+128MB more RAM) Pentium II 233 desktop from a now closed Brisbane business.
I accidentally used the 80GB Windows ME HDD which I had with my K6-2 500 instead of the 98SE one I had prepared. Still, I was able to demonstrate just how bad Jetway can screw up motherboards (the LMC used a Jetway 994AN-L with the Via Apollo Pro 133A). Just look at the Cinebench scores:

Through I'd finally get around to sharing my full GPU collection here. I've slow down getting new cards of recent as we are in wedding saver mode atm.
1 exception that is not in the photos is a Medion Geforce 6700 XL 128mb.

It's very much luck and A LOT of dedicated searching/waiting time. Unless you have infinite pockets to just pay what ever for a card when you see it. 

This has taken almost 10 years to get to this stage and some are so hard to find these days. I've had a lot of people trying to buy these off me. But I have a few cards here that your average collector would wince at the price I paid. But in my eyes it was an investment.

Some cards I have just for the fun of it as they were like $10 that I might flip at some point as the collection evolves.

Most of my cards are 10+ years old. I really need to start going for newer ones but some of them get really expensive for what you get. Same with some really old ones. Voodoo 5000 and up are almost impossible to get and if you do find one its usually in the few hundred dollar to over a grand range.

I've somehow ended up with a (small) collection of the most random, useless (to most people) cards ever. I got a Radeon HD 4670 512MB card for $5 at a scrap store just because.

I was stoked when got given a desktop with a failed motherboard+blown fuse....that ended up having a Diamond Monster 3DII 12MB+original pass-through cable+original SLI cable+AWE64. At the time I couldn't afford to purchase them and as it is it was another 6+ months before I could buy a second Voodoo2. BTW, a lot of DirectX 8.1 games are playable on Voodoo2 SLI if the settings are at the absolute minimum (that's with a Pentium III 1000 BTW).
