This wasn't really in the trash, but at a thrift shop I found a 19 inch hp monitor for $23 (USD) and one of those square dell monitors that you find in schools and businesses for $10. They both work perfectly fine and were very cheap!

i use hp 19 inch hp monitor as i can't afford a better one or a gfx card to power the more pixels in a bigger one

 

My computer still has a working diskette drive and raid built in for IDE...

I know lots of other people probably have Floppy Disks as well, but I just wanted to show my fair share of these relics. They hold an ASTOUNDING 1.44 MB of data!

It actually turned on before I accidently broke one of the pins on the RAM chip by not using a puller. The screen showed a bunch of gable indicating bad ram. I thought about refurbishing it, but they go for about $80+ each.

I think it's time to show you my old computer. It isn't really good for anything but hey, it works perfectly.

Specs are:

CPU: AMD Duron 1300 MHz - O.C. to 1430 MHz
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce4 440MX AGP8X
RAM: 2x 1GB Corsair ValueSelect DDR 133 MHz CL2.5
HDD: 2x 20GB Maxtor Quantum Fireball
Motherboard: ASRock K7VM2.0

 

I tried to cablemanage it a bit but this case doesn't really have any options for that.

This may not be exactly what you were expecting in a topic with this title, but:

 

Many of you will remember the year of 1997 (I didn't bc I wasn't born yet, but that's not the point).  A few days ago, I left the world of my PC to go downstairs and I found my dad with a box of old motherboards. They turned out to be older than I am and I asked to keep them. 

 

Take this as a rare chance to compare the computers of the last century with the computers of today. 

 

Not quite sure what motherboard this is, but there are 2 dims of RAM in and an IBM processor installed.

 

Some sort of internet expansion card. It has a line in and telephone port(?).

 

The processor I mentioned in the first picture.

It has been interesting seeing how PCs have changed in less than 20 years. In some of the photos, you can see printer cables and other components that have changed, evolved and developed into better technologies. Looking back in time has been interesting.
