Guys check this out

Did I get some weird WU?  It was at 3 hours to finish before, now at 5 hours and only 71,438 points.  With a 2080ti.

It says only using 60% GPU power, but still 100% utilization.  It usually sticks to 100% utilized and 95-100% power

Ive been getting some of those recently. They have a really low base score. Never really thought to much of it.

I've been getting a bunch of WUs that take a while like that but use 60-80% GPU power at 100% utilization on my 1070.  Runs mid-60's on those where it normally runs low to mid-70's. Strange WUs.

Alright, windows is breaking my nuts on my F@H server, and i'm starting to think about going the way of the penguin.

i have a few questions about that tough.

how substantial would the change to Linux be?

what distro is best for 24/7 365 days operation?

how would i remote into a linux client from my windows PC? (using windows remote desktop now)

how would i set up the babysitter script on Linux?

14 hours ago, Inkertus said:

1) Very if you're not familiar with it and don't know command-line, less so if you get a user friendly one and/or know it well.

2) Several well-known ones with a slow update cycle OR, as I have found based on their web pages, CentOS, Feren, FreeBSD, Mageia maybe Ubuntu or a Debian/Ubuntu based distro.  Ask more linux-familiar people for a distro, these are just what I've casually found.

3) SSH for command-line or VNC for video. There are a few others I know exist but am unfamiliar with. See #2

4) Unsure, haven't done it, but it's Python 3 based so it should be system agnostic, just get Python 3 installed and google how to run the script via command-line or GUI it wasn't hard on W10.

Best of luck!

I may be able to help more if I tinker with it myself.

1 & 2) I generally run Ubuntu systems as they're easy for care and feeding. If your comfortable with command line Ubuntu Server isn't bad, if you want a GUI I'd go with Ubuntu Desktop. I normally stick to debian based distros otherwise when I toy around with em. As @Inkertus said, it's all depending on how comfortable you are with command line or I would add how technical/comfortable with learning you are.

3) From Windows to Linux, depends on if you have a GUI and/or if your comfortable with command line. If you're running something like Ubuntu Desktop you could install a VNC server and use that to kinda be like remote desktop or the messy route of xWindows Forwarding but TBH it's easiest to use SSH and learn command line for it. Also if it's for managing F@H then use the advanced controls on your windows machine to control it. If you just want stats and basic management of the Ubuntu system look into cockpit it's easy to use: Cockpit

4) Babysitter does work on Linux just make sure you have python3 installed

Note: Folding@Home uses Python2 which is no longer really supported, so depending on the version of linux you install it may no longer be automatically installed (Python3 might) so you may have to install Python2. Current LTS of Ubuntu 20.04 you must install it via package manager

Anyone had Update_Core bug happen on older AMD cards (R9 380 to be exact) while using 7.6.8?

Is there any fix?

Does updating to 7.6.9 fix that or is it server-side issue?

Bit surprised not to see a rear or top exhaust fan there. Got that positive pressure for days though!

Ya, it came with one.  Unfortunately my motherboard is a little tiny and only has 2 fan headers!  I dont have any splitters on hand so just took the fan off, figured better to have the beefy 2x 140 noctuas powered and will look at getting a splitter and getting the rear exhaust back on

Ah, ITX board. That would do it. My MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC also has a whopping two total fan headers. One for CPU, one for case fan(s). Splitters on both are necessary. You said Noctua fans? Those usually come with a Y-splitter right?

I was going to say my Noctuas came with y splitters. I have like a dozen of those.

Also be aware that currently FAHControl, at least for Linux, uses Python2 and will not run on Ubuntu past 19.04 or 19.1. You'll need to connect from another PC using FAHControl to get to the advanced controls it offers if you're not comfy doing it the command line way or editing files directly. Until they fix this, the newest Ubuntu you can run is 18.04.

As an aside, I found Xubuntu the easiest to get used to using as a long time Windows user, the layout is more similar and bonus it's super super light on pretty much any hardware from the last 5-7 years, even runs snappy on 10 year old stuff!
