just upgraded from my 3700x/RX590 to same 3700x but with a Asus TUF 3070 OC 8gb. ppd for GPU went from 346,000 ish to an estimated 3,000,000 ish. i'[ll let it run for a couple days and see how it really goes.

I'm holding off swapping the 1650 until the 2600 arrives for the other PC, as more people fall off the folding bandwagon I'm moving up more. I wish hardware prices weren't so messed up right now, 2060's are going for $400 used!?!

I wouldn't really call it stable, you can see that your 2060 (folding slot 3) had 2 core restarts. One of those luckily was a dropped WU, but you probably lost a chunk of folded % and had to redo it. However, the first restart actually dropped a WU totally and you had to download new one. Now, I cannot know without full logs how much time those 2 restarts took out of folding but I can surely say that that was not worth it. The PPD you get from OC-ing is miserably low compared to risk of dropping a WU.

You did have luck in last few days (if you have ran same settings during that time). But those 2 restarts (on 25.11. and 26.11.) are not something you should aim for. Card may be stable on most WUs, but some will fail for sure. +125 CC is quite a lot imho, you should be happy if it has been working with that OC for so many days, especially if it is stable in benchmarks/games, but for Folding, I'd recommend you to drop it to at least +80 if not lower.

So far, the 2060's have not stopped at all within the past 24 hours since I dropped the power limit. The overclock was hit and miss in terms of the core restarting, and most of the time it was not an issue. Today's numbers are impressive, considering I dropped 300 watts off the total system power draw. Something my bank account will love.

My 2060 is a dog unfortunately and any o/c past +50 at stock power will result in bad WUs. My 2060 Super is much better.

It seems that the 2060's that I have are very good, but yet again, they're the TU104 variant, the same core as my 2080 super.

It seems that the 2060's that I have are very good, but yet again, they're the TU104 variant, the same core as my 2080 super.

The 2060 that I have is the Gigabyte Mini ITX OC. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2060-mini-itx-oc-6gb-gddr6-vr-ready-graphics-card-1920-core

So you're seeing a drop from 1400 to 1100W and from 14 to 13.7MPPD. So a back of the napkin calculation is you're efficiency went from 10,000 to 12,454 PPD/W.

What I observed with my mix of cards (and a different measuring method - Card Power Draw as reported by nvidia-smi versus Total System Power Draw from the PSU) was 1400 to 1100W and 24 to 22MPPD so 17,142 to 20,000PPD/W

My 2060 Super is a EVGA XC with a 1470 boost and 1695 boost clock. I suspect its just that I lost the Lottery with this card as my other cards all do much better. Typically I don't bother running an overclock with Default Power Limits but it does help when running a decreased Power Limit.

I suspect the TU104 die on the more recent 2060 Supers helps as well as it is likely a larger surface area so with a bunch of fused SMs the heat is more spread out and thus easier to dissipate even though most of these have crippled coolers. Maybe they're just all the same die and the variants have more to do with how many bad SMs they have and what they can clock to.

Avoid having core restarting, it is much better for your PPD than overclocking. I learned it the hard way back in 2018. If you aim to fold all year around, consider putting slight overclock and dropping the power limit.

You can even see my only 2080 Super with 55% PL and small OC (+30CC/+250MC) has been stably folding since event ended for exactly 2.73M and it is using a fraction of power that it used during an event when I OC-ed it to 105% PL same OC and it did between 2.8-3.2M PPD.

Ah, yes, all of you who will pass me this year will have a hard job keeping your spots during next year. All my GPUs are currently mining to recuperate from folding months bill. Also, I'll have to ask Jason from EoC to start accepting crypto donations, as converting crypto to PayPal is a hassle nowadays and using credit card to donate money to PayPal is not something I am into. Their fees and conversion rates are absurd.

Thank you, @LAR_Systems. 5950X can do 700K PPD? Jesus.

Remember, it could... but only if you had it only folding and were doing next to nothing else on the system.

This is why I built a per logical core chart on the CPU profiles https://folding.lar.systems/cpu_ppd/brands/amd/folding_profile/amd_ryzen_9_5950x_16-core_processor
so you can see how PPD might look at different logical core usage thanks to system overhead, GPU folding etc.

@LAR_SystemsI noticed on the GPU DB that RADEON RX 6800/6800 XT / 6900 XT showed up! Are they going to eventually get separated or is it something you can't do anything about due to AMD's weird GPU name reporting stuff?

WHAT? That's around the same price I got my 2070 OC NEW!

I got swapped over to Linux folding yesterday! My PPD went from around 2.2-2.4 mil PPD (sometimes up to 2.6) to having a good minimum around 2.6 mil PPD if I am not doing anything crazy to as high as a little over to 3 MILL PPD!!!

@LAR_SystemsI noticed on the GPU DB that RADEON RX 6800/6800 XT / 6900 XT showed up! Are they going to eventually get separated or is it something you can't do anything about due to AMD's weird GPU name reporting stuff?

@chaozbandit is spot on.  FAH is reporting it that way, I can’t do anything unless they break them up by bios / pci id.  FAH tends to leave AMD cards grouped unfortunately.

Yes, feel the smug of Linux! LOL! I use it for my daily laptop because it's lighter on the old hardware, I use it for folding for stability. My folding box has been up and running for a couple weeks at least without touching it.

Yeah man, prices are all kinds of upside down. I wish I'd bought a 2060KO when they launched but they sold out super fast and then I wouldn't have gotten this Vega56 that I just really like for some inexplicable reason. It *feels* different, maybe it's the HBM2, maybe it's the giant triple fan cooler, maybe it's the RGB, but I like it.

Teach Zberg Jr to fold. Never to early to start!
