Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

As soon as this gets put in a single production vehicle the one argument will be done with. You could totally roadtrip with 10x the energy density of lithium ion

It's highly unlikely that'll happen, and even then, it's unlikely to deliver any promises without huge drawbacks.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

they just might! I hope we finally have an answer. it's been too long. like 20 years since lithium ion first became a thing?

well just like they said in the thread, another tech that will be another 10 years of forever. i hope its not and that this gets into a car asap but i doubt it :(

I agree with you two, but so far this honestly seems the most promising out of everything that's come up before.

how it handles charging and how many charge cycles it can endure is the only question left really.

And discharge rate, how many amps it can put out might be a limiting factor too

They'll probably throw smaller batches at Hobby Truck racers for experimentation. (That would be awesome actually, too bad I'm no longer into that. Part of me misses the Traxxas Slash I had but I hadn't run that since 2013 so thats why I sold it )

if this is successful, I would love to see battery packs that are bolt-in replacements for fuel tanks in existing cars.

Call me a cynic, but I've seen news about major advancements in batteries more than a few times in the last 5 or so years; yet none of them have made any real difference to the commercial market.

Wake me when it actually becomes a thing.

Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see EVs with a 500+ mile range, I just have so rarely seen quantum leaps in any industry like a 10x energy density.

That would require an engine swap too wouldnt it? I think most people would opt for a new car since Battery + Electric Motor would theoretically cost more than some car's values on the road today (much less ten years from now)

Again, wake me when it's commercially viable.

ditto. i'm really not a fan of all the manufacturer's pushing to electrifying everything. i think i'd prefer fuel cell vehicles tbh instead of electricity if i had to choose a "green" form of car transportation. i still wished we could develop a synthetic clean gasoline instead so we wouldn't need to overhaul how our cars work.

hydrogen might take off together with hydrogen fusion, both of which are years off sadly. untill there is a robust hydrogen network, its just so much less viable than just lithium batteries and electricity

Just got done doing another test on the Paseo's engine, and I decided to rev it just a bit. Does anybody know why it sounds louder when I lift off the throttle and the engine returns to idle, even though the entire exhaust system is completely stock? I don't think I've heard anything like it before.
