Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I put 18" wheels on my saab, it looks maybe a little weird but it's growing on me.

Hey everyone, looking to pull the trigger on a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan. Has a 2.0 straight 4 turbo, 190hp/240 lbft. Comes with the good DQ500 dual wet clutch transmission, the equivalent of about $31,500 new incl. tax and insurance. If I ever want it to perform better, seen it chiptuned up to 250hp and 300lbft. I'm not in the US and believe me there aren't many other options here. A hilux-based Toyota SUV, a weird hyundai/kia, and two local cars with parts sourced mostly from FCA.

Anything I should know before I do this? Test drive was great, paddle shifters are fun but tbh pointless. Does 0-60 in 7.3 and if I ever cared to, 5 dead with the chiptune and a 13.6 quarter mile.

Has that volkswagen ACT thing where 2 cylinders shut off at lower loads so fuel efficiency is good, 28ish mpg.

Figured I would post here before we get one.

Sounds like a nice car, only thing I regularly see on somewhat recent DI VW's are PCV stuff and some ignition coils sometimes. Get a catch can to help with keeping the intake clean on there.

Yeah, as much as Volkswagen like to separate their Tsi and Tdi engines, they're still both direct injection. I'll keep an eye on it. That said it includes 10 services over the first 4 or 5 years so they'll probably take care of that anyway, unless this is an issue that shows up faster than 6 months.

It's the kind of thing that builds up during the lifetime of the car and won't become a problem till after warranty, it's better to just never let it become a problem in the first place by running a catch can.

is catch cans voiding warranties still a thing?

Depends on whats being warrantied. Honda don't really care until you get into engine and head unit issues. Then they want tons of info and pictures before okaying any work. They'd 100% deny a claim on an engine issue with a car that has a catch can installed. Head units are instant denial if it has stuff like honda hack on it, they have a whole job aid on how to determine it for different head units.

See, this is why old used cars are best, no warranties to void. You are the warranty 😂

I've seen tight belts that are old just strip teeth right off and jump time that way.

This one wasn’t old just had a bit of an oil bath for a few months lol

im thinking if it just jumped one tooth it’s prob fine, just throw a new belt at it and clean everything up

As much as I don’t want to do the rest of the work the car is worth a lot more if it runs lol

TSI is petrol TDI is diesel, which is where the separation lies. But yes, both are turbo and direct injection in one way or another, the TSI just has a fancy term to not get mixed up with diesels.

but yeah should be fine especially during warranty and included services

Meh throw a belt on it. If it's one off it is probably fine. It's the fastest way to know if it's ok or not. Don't even have to put it all back together before you start it, just slap the crank pulley on and see if she goes or not.

Cam might be slightly off but its really hard to tell from the front. I line up the marks on the back of the cam gear with the valve cover off. You can try to retime it and see if it runs, but I wouldn't be surprised if it bent valves. Belt is gonna jump retarded, which I think will hit exhaust valves on that motor.

I personally am not a fan of the 4 door coupe body style at all and would have gone with an A6 avant instead, but otherwise looks like a great car
