Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

no I love the Austin Healey, but they debut the 300 in the late 50s and it didn't go through that much change throughout their production run. So I still consider them part of the late 50s early 60s

I did however overlook the sprite mrk 4 which looks pretty good considering the rest of Austins designs during that period. But that could also be attributed to Healey's input in the partnership.

all this time and I never realized... lol

I'm 6ish hours from Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve (Montreal F1). A ticket for a flight over would be as much as the gas I'd have to buy driving, or I could spend half that and get a round trip train journey. Montreal is a very metro friendly city and is more than walkable, not that the same can be said about Austin.

Still COTA is a nice venue, a bit on the worse side as a spectator since you're so far from the racing line.

So was I but the 4 shakedown laps he did didn't instill much confidence. We all know the car is capable of more. There is no way the PZ Civic is only 2-3 seconds faster than Sasha's NA 350Z.

probably. iirc we pay like up to 10% in taxes when buying a car. It's not cheap...

edit: I was wrong... it's 4% sales tax and up to 6% local tax

4 percent only? sheesh. over here it's like 8.125. don't know why it's so high, seeing the state wide tax rate is only 6.5. san francisco is like 8.5, which is crazy, bc smallish town v major city difference is like .375 percent.

Yep, I paid 8.5% or as near as no difference on the SS. 0/10 do not recommend. It was rolled into the financing though, so that was a help.

I used to live in unincorporated boulder county. 2% sales tax was a godsend for car shenanigans.

I agree after the 60’s their cars (besides the Austin healey) got kinda boring or just in general poorly designed... some a bit ugly if I’m honest

definitely won't be fun to be paying for stuff when i move to the bay area possibly for college once i transfer out of cc here. food, driving, housing (that's gonna suck big time, especially rent), and that sales tax is gonna hurt my wallet even more.

and i was a bit off on sales tax here. it's actually 7.875 percent. Still terrible compared to the rest of the state, and the country.

Personally I think Austin cars from the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's & 60's were the best. It was the 70's and 80's where they had a slow decline in quality, the Austin name was discontinued in 1988 when they were part of Rover (Austin Rover) and after that point were just named as Rover until 05 when the Rover name was discontinued. As a Brit it's quite sad to see Austin go out like they did because it was British Leyland that basically killed them and were bought out by the wrong people that didn't care about the brand, what could have happened if they didn't sign the British Leyland deal and just went solo again?

***TACOMA UPDATE***

IMG_0718.thumb.jpg.ce53e4df19b935bcfa9aaef76f12df37.jpg

I ended up working on the frame for a solid 5 hours last night. got the bad side reinforced so that it's solid enough to be drivable. I'm now driving it around town a bit just to stretch it's legs. I certainly won't take it out on the highway, or put any kind of load on it yet.

Also, FYI, welding underneath a truck without a lift is hard.

Cost to low earth orbit is about $1300/lb. I really doubt that roadster has a battery in it at all.
