Edit: never said the miles lol.  Bought it early 2017 with 20 miles... Now has over 70,000 miles.. I drive way to much.

I don't have a car at the moment, but I'm looking at buying a Mercedes W123 (more specifically an '81 Mercedes 200T with 165K miles) as a project car.

I know nothing about cars... but I would assume water/liquid/oil would have less lag than vacuum, as it does not compress the same way air/numatics does. It could also be more reliable, as easier to make water/oil tight, than making something air tight? Pressures and power might be higher too, allowing for stronger power steering.

it's capable of being a stronger assistance for sure, which is one of my complaints about GM trucks as because it's so good, it's too good. Brake pedal feels soft and mushy

 

which is fine for most people I guess. I prefer to have a harder pedal

i drive a 2006 peugeot 307 CC facelift

really a girly car to a lot of people but i wanted to drive a convertible at least once in my life and didnt have much moneys at the time and it was the cheapest convertable model with a solid steel roof.

now has 120000 something KM on it. i got with 90k or so a couple of years ago

so far it has its ups and downs and while it is fun when it works....lets just say im cured of peugeot and convertables right now.

 

next one up is probably gonna be an abarth 595 once i got enough saved up. really feels ridiculous since im quite a big dude but i never had a thing for the "manly cars". i sont drive long distance a lot so i like to have fun driving rather than komfortable autobahn travel

Sure you do. Try stopping it without any brake booster or drive an old car with manual brakes lol. It's horrendous!

Anyway, purging air from the system is what's fun. You need to get out as much as possible from the steering gear then start purging from the brake booster and keep purging and then purge more. Then when you think you're done do it again.

Because diesels don't produce vacuum and vacuum pumps aren't as reliable as hydraulics. One less parasitic drain off the engine if you had a choice between vacuum and hydroboost which is why gas engines used it too (and platform sharing). 

 

My boss had the great idea of using dex 3 in place of mercon for a f350 power steering pump I did. Worked great until about 3 blocks on the test drive and I had no assist at all. You could stand on the brake pedal, full ass off the seat and hardly get the truck to stop. Engine braking on an auto would be more efficient at stopping from 40mph.

also usually the vacuum line going to the booster usually has a one way check valve inside of it so it holds a bit of vacuum at all times

 

I learned this the hard way once. Replaced brake hose with normal vacuum hose, had weird situations where the assist would vary. it was so weird feeling lol

2002 Mazda Miata SE (US) with quite a story. Has an engine and ECU from the Japan from the 160hp model they made. (20 more than the US version supposedly.. In practice not really a huge difference but it's strong enough for what it is)

 

129k miles. Not sure how much on the engine, all I know is it was supposedly under 40k when I bought it and I've put 24k on it since. Was very clean motor, even the black paint it has in places was intact and it was very clean inside (had to remove oil pan to reseal though, had a tiny leak). So I believe it.. In case you're wondering it was replaced because the PO had to get the OG motor replaced due to an oil change accident. It was replaced with a rebuilt piece of crap that lasted all of 20k miles.

 

and so that's how you end up with a 129k mile car that's on it's 3rd engine. Love the car though. so much fun :D nearing 3 years of ownership pretty soon

An '08 Ford F150 Screw (Super Crew, aka four door pickup). Had 7200 miles on it when I got it in May of '09 (it was a dealer repo in cherry condition) and now has almost 59k on it. I'll have that truck until I no longer can get parts for it. My favorite feature on it is the 40-20-40 front bench seat with the fold down armrest/console. I hate center consoles because it's pretty much impossible for my old carcass to crawl over them if I'm forced to enter from the passenger side because some incompetent, inconsiderate idiot blocked my access to the drver side door. Sadly, bench seats are becoming rare now.

 

I also have a shell on the bed that has tool box doors on the sides. Those are handy; it's like having a lockable trunk. I prefer larger vehicles because they are far easier for me to get in and out of than smaller vehicles. Having plenty of passenger and cargo room is also a hige advantage. I wish the F150 Screws had longer beds, though (5.5' beds have been the only ones one could get on them).

2014 Jetta (2.0L w/ 6-speed Automatic). It's got a little over 110,000 KM on it right now.

 

It's a great "little" (small by North American standards, medium-sized by Euro standards) car, with pretty decent fuel economy but still a lot of room for people and storage.

I have a 2005 escape with 112k miles on it.  It burns oil and is way louder than it should be but the brakes work and it still drives so meh.  I'll fix it when I have my own garage.

 

My other car is a 2018 Kona at 11k km, a few cosmetic changes only as it's still under warranty.

 

Currently awaiting my new 2004 forester STi from Japan, importable in July, bought and paid for already

Unfortunately they are a rarity around and cost a lot due to that.

The LS400 is nice as well. Probably a bit less that can go wrong with it too... at least I would think so. Plus, a manual swap is a lot easier and much cheaper than on an LS430 (only a couple have been done on the 430).

I had a '99 Buick Regal - similar chassis and damn, it was like riding on air. I love late 90's/early 00's old people cars.

@cluelessgenius the only thing I saw that was particular exotic was the Cayman. The rest of the cars seem pretty normal. Even the Mustang isn't particularly expensive compared to a normal mid-level 4-door sedan.

New wheels and tires!

TR Motorsports C1 15x8+20. 205/50R15 Federal Formosa AZ01. Love how it looks! I'm going to black out the headlight housings and paint the windshield frame and mirrors black. Also put in a new header back exhaust, cost me around $150 in parts at Auto Zone haha. Catless with a Cherry Bomb glass pack and Cherry Bomb turbo muffler. 2" to 2.5" tip. No CEL since I welded in a spark plug non fouler to act as a spacer (don't tell anyone, they'll smell it first lol) Just something to keep the car quiet while it waits for a turbo.

 

Edit: Also, these wheels are SO LIGHT! I could pick them up with one hand effortlessly. The small tires probably weighed about the same as the wheel itself which is incredible.
