Recomended way to squeeze the little bit of life out of a spanked HDD?

My 1TB WD-Black has 45,000 hours of use, and just about 50 registered dead sectors. I'm suffering bad transfer speeds, and crashing 1-2 times a day. She's on her last legs.

 

Would me clearing out as much storage space as possible, and defragging the disk possible bring the crashing down to a minimum, and maybe let me squeeze some life out this harddrive for up to a month? And if not, are there any other tricks and tips?

I would get all of the data off ASAP. Then reformat to see if the sectors would fix themselves or if it's physical damage.

Just get your data off. With a drive like that with that many hours, just get rid of it. Drives don't last forever. I have some with 53,000+ hours on them, but I wouldn't trust them for much more use. Don't try to reuse it for anything important.

It was all good until my little cousin spanked a nice, shiny, and powerful Spongebob magnet on my computer case, riiiight next to the hard-drive. Of course I didn't notice for probably, i'd guess up to 4 months? LOL

Like a fridge magnet? Those aren't going to cause much issue, but check if the sectors can be fixed.

10-4, Just thought i'd bring that up because I don't know much and all i've been taught is any sort of magnet+harddrive=death and destruction

Did you even read the post? The drive is working, just not as intended, putting it in the freezer will cause more harm than good at this point. The only time it is a good idea to freeze a drive is when it cannot be read and is a last ditch effort to recover some data.
