Transferring Steam games over LAN

Im trying to copy my steam games over from my laptop to my desktop without having to download all of them again, so what do I do, I have network sharing enabled on both pcs, Im trying to find out how to do this.

Why not over flash drive?

My external HDD isnt big enough or does it use all of the space the games take up

Steam will compress them to at least some extent I'm pretty sure, how much stuff do you have?

If you can set up a P2P connection or such, just drag the files over to the target and start the copying. Afterwards on the target PC, start Steam and set the copy destination as a Steam Library. You should now be good to play.

Nearly 400gb, my external is 300gb, with some installers on it for new OS'

I recommend backing up 200gb worth, transferring, then doing the other 200gb. I see no reason to attempt a 400gb network transfer if there is any possibility of doing it physically. If both devices have ethernet ports however... then that might be the best option.

I really don't understand what you want.

 

First you say it's over LAN, and then you want to do it via USB.

Which one?

Im doing it over USB now, not LAN

if it's USB then just copy partially, copy few games after it reach 300GB and copy the rest...

easy.

 

Again I don't get it what's the problem.

The games located in Steam>Steamapps folder.

It only took up 200gb instead
