LG 34WK95U - 34" 2160p ultrawide

I couldn't find another topic about it, so here it is :) Feel free to delete me if I didn't search properly.

So apparently LG will be announcing three new monitors at CES, among which a "4k ultrawide":

Quote

The LG 32UK950 and the LG 34WK95U are monitors aimed at the high-end professional designers and photo editors as the new Nano IPS panel covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, fit for Hollywood blockbuster mastering.

Quote

The most interesting display of the lot is the LG 34WK95U which is a flat ultra-wide monitor with 5120×2160 resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. Such specifications will certainly appeal to those who do a lot of multi-tasking.

LG-34WK95U-1-430x267.jpg

Quote

Both the LG 32UK950 4K display and LG 34WK95U 5120×2160 monitor offer HDR support with the max brightness of 600 nits.

The others are a 32" 4k screen and a 32" 1440p. All using their Nano IPS technology.

I think this pretty nice, as I'm a big fan of 4k, though I do wonder how practical it will be. I've only used my 40" TV so far, on which scaling wasn't necessary, but will 2160p on 34" ultrawide be practical outside of photo/video editing without scaling? In any case we'll probably need some new horsepower before we'll be gaming on this one :P

Other than that, I just realized this monitor basically slams 6 1080p monitors in an ultrawide form factor. A 3x2 surround setup would make for 5760x2160 pixels. "Only" 12.5% more pixels. Isn't technology amazing :D

Hehe 5120x2160p 144Hz GSync yeah! I'm curious to see what we'll get as well. Screen wise I'm hoping for some nice 4k 120+Hz monitors and that they'll be reasonably affordable.

This monitor should be Vesa HDR600 as well. It looks really nice but it is flat which might be more interesting to content creators (hint @LinusTech).

I would love for a curved version for gaming, that doesn't cost as much as a car.

My dream setup has changed a whole lot over the past few weeks, mostly to fit budgets.
I know for a fact I want a 27" 1440p GSync IPS 144Hz display though now I want HDR...
Second monitor has been 3440x1440 IPS Curved 34" and anything on top of that is special... though 4k ultrawide... SOO tempting.

So true, it's like they do it on purpose. I was thinking maybe we'll see a 144Hz 1440p ultrawide monitor and I'd have everything I want: high resolution, high refresh rate and lots of screen real estate and I'd be fine with the fact that 4k would be out of reach for a while. And just when you've made up your mind they dangle a new carrot in front of your face for you to chase :P

Not a chance it’s 144hz, it’ll be more like 60-100. 4K 120hz is just around the horizon.

It's quite great res for ulta wide though. Very nice.

Personally I'm more into regular wide, and would like to see 4K monitor with 240Hz in 1080p that'd be great.

With that resolution/PPI it seems like a 38” version would make more sense. Even at 38” it would have a higher PPI than a 20” 1440p monitor.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Just as with all other ultrawides... just buy a 16:9 display with the same horizontal resolution. Or just buy 3 4k monitors, I have a feeling the price wouldn't be far off.

I don't use scaling on my 27" 2160p monitor (with a few exceptions). This should be roughly the same size vertically and have about the same pixel density. I have very good eyesight, but most people should be just fine with it using just a bit of scaling.

As for games, a couple of 1080/tis should do the job no problem.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

One with the same horizontal or 3 displays are not the same experience as an ultrawide. First of all, fuck bezels, second is playing a game spanning your FOV, especially without bezels is a whole different gaming experience.

Having tried all 3 scenarios, I have to disagree. Bezels are barely noticeable in most cases, even games once you start playing - and for normal applications it really, really doesn't make any difference. I would argue 3 displays with far more pixels are always better if given a choice.

I have the Dell 34, and love it for work and for occasional gaming. My one complaint with it is a lack of physical vertical space, which is something the 38" options likely solve. More resolution isn't necessarily better for work tasks.

I am not sure I'd buy this in 34" form factor, but 38-40" and I'd be throwing money at it.
