How to de-lid an i7-8700K

Go to solution Solved by Anghammarad,

Depends on what you are planning to do with your CPU...

If no overclocking, then there is no need for delidding. Each of those cooler will do.

If basic overclocking, then again mostly no need for delidding. Each of those coolers will do.

If you want to go balls to the wall in overclocking, delidding may be needed, and perhaps even water cooling AIO, or a really good air cooler.

As for delidding, there are tools for that. Google or duckduckgo or any search engine you may trust has the answer.

I was getting an i7-8700K for my PC. I was thinking if delidding it for higher clocks. One question: will this increase temperature? Will a BeQuiet Dar Base Rock 3 or a Noctua DH-15 be enough for cooling this?

yea not recommended

if you cannot afford higher air cooling or water cooling

but still it will void the warranty and not recommended

Just delid if you reach overclocks that is blocked by the temperature, running a 8700K at 4.8GHZ isn't going to give massive heat with a decent cooler.

Delidding is no harm if you delid in the proper way, it's more like people are afraid of breaking their CPUs when delidding. Using Rockit88, deliddiemate are delid tools that does it safely.

Ok if I don't delid, then will a Noctua DH-15 or a Dark Rock Pro 3 be enough for 5GHz? Or should I really get a Kraken X52 or X62 or H110i or H115i?
