Ok I looked at this build and I REALLY LIKE IT. I wish everything was on Amazon, but that's a stupid reason not to buy a certain part, I like it!

yeah, i wouldn't recommend that build, and the case looks pretty overpriced IMO. let me get another list for you in a few mins...

I recommend going with something like an 8th gen i5 as well as a cheaper non overclockable motherboard.

U can't get non overclockable boards for 8th gen Intel yet.

Definitely will change the hard drive, honestly fell in love with the case so I'm not going to change that. Changing the processor to an 7th gen so I can overclock it doesn't sound like a bad idea though.

There are a lot of really weird choices in that build, some of which has been touched on already by other posters.

The 7400T is a pretty special case CPU, which means it's a lot more expensive than other processors of it's performance class. It isn't overclockable, so buying a Z270 board is weird. If you were to buy a 7600 (non-K), you'd save $3 on us amazon, and get better a performing part, and will be able to save more by changing from a Z270 board.

The choice of a 1TB drive is weird as well, the majority of the cost in lower capacity drives is the actual casing and materials, not the patterning on the platters. Moving to a 2TB drive from a 1TB one is about a $10 bump in cost, for double the capacity.

The case is incredibly expensive for the class it's in, but that's understandable if you're specifically going for that aesthetic.

  • Don't get 7th gen Intel, it doesn't make sense.
  • That's a rather expensive cooler for something that doesn't need aftermarket cooling.
  • You don't need a Z series board unless you need features specific to that board.
  • I'd shell out more money for a board with built in AC WiFi and ditch the add in card.

I like the case. It looks pretty sick in white. If that's what you want to go for, don't worry about the cost. Some people don't understand spending money on aesthetics.

IMO I would change to a 7600k, and change the 5400 rpm hard drive to a 7200rpm one. Its like $10 more :P

don't limit yourself to just 1-2 stores, you may be able to find better deals in other stores so that you can get more for your money.

So another thing is I really do like the case from my original build idea I'm dead set on that and willing to shell out a bit extra for it. Thanks herman mcpootis you're a big help!

I mean, I just recommended it because it was close to what he already had tbh. :/

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, the build, is finished (finally) and I'm super happy. Thanks for all the help guys and for setting me out on the right path to success. There were a few rookie mistakes in installation and wire management is a bit of a bitch but I plan on buying some more RGB strips and cleaning up the mess a bit.!

Special thanks to @herman mcpootis for helping out by picking parts and especially for making me look like an idiot when I needed it! You guys rock!
