Help Choosing WIFI Channel

My neighbors are using channels 1, 11, 6, 4, and 5, they are all at 20MHZ. My router supports 1-13. What would be the best configuration?

Router info:

Huawei HG8247H

2.4GHZ

Channels 1-13

Channel width 20MHZ, 40MHZ

802.11b/g/n

Region: Pakistan

 

SSID: Network

Total devices connected at a time: 9

Choose whatever channel is the cleanest at your location (least amount of signals). This may require some testing, which works best and which not.

There are several channels that don't overlap.

2, 7, 12 are another option, there will be overlap with existing channels but it won't matter too much.

Just because they are using them doesn't mean you can't.

If you had, for example, 10 neighbors all on those channels then you'd have issues.

True, missed that. Not a lot of regions allow channels 12 and 13, from what I have heard. Considering 1, 6 and 11 are already in use, then probably following that might be most helpful.

Yah, right after I posted that I did some more research and there are reasons, 1/6/11 are the defaults, which has to do with the channels in between overlapping and whatnot but I didn't dig into it too much.

If only a neighbor or two are using the channels, shouldn't impact speed, and like you said, use the one with the least noise

40 MHz gives more room for performance as it is a wider channel, but may introduce more noise/overlap with other channels, resulting in worse performance.

And your advice? 11+7 overlaps with 6. Two neighbors use 6.
