plug/unplug displayport with pc on

Go to solution Solved by Frankenburger,

Just like any other device that you can plug cables in, plugging in and unplugging cables will cause wear and tear over time, but we're talking about tens of thousands of inserts before the port starts to become damaged. That is unless you plug a cable in incorrectly. Aside from that, no, plugging in or unplugging a monitor while the computer is on is not harmful in any way.

Hello

I got a new monitor from aoc today and I installed it on my desk and turned my pc and monitor on and i realized that the image was taking so long to show up and saw I forgot to plug the DisplayPort cable in the gpu and monitor. I didn't even realize I did this with my pc and monitor powered on.

Monitor and gpu seems fine as i have normal image. But i would like to know if this could have damaged something like the image quality, the ports on both endings or deteriorate it.

Thank you for your attention

The ports on the back of the card are hot-swappable, so plugging displays in while the system is running will not damage anything.

Yeah, but I don't think any modern machine that's used by standard consumers even have those ports anymore, while new motherboards will most likely still have a PS/2 connector.

I work for a company where a lot of our customers still use parallel devices. But other than that, yeah, consumer grade hardware and peripherals have pretty much done away with all that ^^

So, if i plug a displayport cable incorrectly it will damage it ?  I thought that Incorrect plug just doesn't get image on the monitor.

I mean incorrectly plugging it in as in forcing the plug in or shoving it in at a bad angle.
