What we tell our kids and grandkids?

brjedi

I'm sure that everyone reading this has either had their parents tell them, or have told their kids, what technology was like back when they were a kid.

It usually begins with "Back when I was a kid..." and then may proceed in one of the following ways, or something else.

  • We had to GET UP FROM THE COUCH to change the channel on the TV!
  • We had to RENT a VCR, player and all, to watch a movie!
  • We about went DEAF whenever we were trying to use the internet! [  Dial Up Internet Sound ]
  • etc...

However, there is one question. What will we tell our grandkids and great grandkids? Will it be that at one point we had to CONTROL OUR CAR!? Will it be that we once had to WAIT for things to download, or that we had to go to a STORE and BUY a game? [This one is even currently becoming less of a reality] Will it be that at one point we had to look at a computer screen, it wasn't built into our eye?

Anyways, I challenge you to come up with what you think you will tell your grandkids or great grandkids in ~30 years. List what it was like in 2017, and how much better it is in 2047.

Enjoy! ;)

Back when I was a kid, we had to work to earn something called "money", which you exchanged for goods and services.

Though really I'll never have grandchildren. It might be my sisters grandchildren :P

I'll also pull the "I had to walk to school, 4km, up hill both ways. Which I can say. Because it's true.

Hey, during the winter, hell yes. It's Canada. Unfortunately I had to cross a small bridge that, when plowed, would have banks that crested the safety rail. It was a little sketchy walking on it, and during the real bad snows, we'd have to walk in the lane oncoming lane of traffic...

Ugh don't remind me. Especially during the rainy season. The town I grew up in, in English,  means "Mother of the wind" so we saw some wicked wind, and it was windy almost all the time.

Right. I still remember the craze of dual core. "It's two processors in one!!" Or how revolutionary hyper threading was when it came out, and seeing the first desktop computers that used it. I believe Dell was the first to offer a computer with a hyperthreading chip in it. I remember seeing it on QVC.

The world is, in most areas, is a better place than it's ever been. There's less poverty in the world than there has ever been, there's less disease can there has ever been, there is less hunger than there has ever been and in most places all the information in the world is at our fingertips. The only thing that has really declined on a global scale is the environment.

in the US, yeah we're on a shit slide into a shit hole filled with shit sharks, most of the rest of the world is actually getting better at quite a good rate. As much as I hate to admit it Trump did at least one good thing, every single country except the US committed to the paris agreement this year, even that crazy little rocket man
