R9 290X-X2 dual GPU

If this post has been covered before, then I'm sorry, but i recently found this article first on Tom's Hardware, then on their source page. apparently AMD are working on a dual GPU version of the R9 290X, featuring 2 full Hawaii cores on 1 PCB.

Expect single-card dual-core Radeon R9 290X x 2, and perhaps for some time to wait.

According to reliable sources, AMD has been in planning the use of two internal Hawaii XT graphics card, but the time is not yet clear.

Since this code Vesuvius single card dual-core graphics card official name remains uncertain, according to sources, at this stage AMD did not release any relevant information. http://chinese.vr-zone.com/90794/hawaii-xt-core-the-next-amd-dual-core-graphics-card-like-hd7990-codename-is-vesuvius-11152013/

article on Tom's Hardware sums up the source in a better detail

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/amd-radeon-r9-290x2,news-46334.html

if this is true are we going to see the most powerful graphics card ever, with the ability to fry two eggs at the same time?

If this is true, we might be looking at a card with up to 5632processors, 128 ROPs, and 8 GB of GDDR5 memory (4 per GPU), along with a dual 512-bit memory interface, which will be marketed as a 1024-bit memory interface.

Thats why the 780ti or just 780 is more appealing, Nvidia knows how to make reference coolers that look nice and are quiet as balls.

I remember a while ago, before Hawaii was released (back when we all referred to them as the 9000 series), AMD specifically said in an interview that they would not be following tradition of a dual GPU card for this generation and instead the ultimate enthusiast card will be single GPU (290x).

Idk maybe they've changed their mind. If AMD doesn't do it I'm sure someone else will, like Powercolors 7990.

The 290X PCB is pretty packed. Maybe it'll be one of those dual PCB Monstrosities.

I'd say it'll be a few years off before they can get this down to a single PCB.

Now I think about it is a Dual PCB card really a single Graphics Card. Or is it 2 cards crammed into 1 slot?

now only if we can see them shrink this onto a single die with the R9 390x that would be a BEAST

Are you people that ignorant? stop it with the egg frying.

A 290X with an arctic extreme III was at around 60 in full load.

Do you really think it would be that hard to come up with a custom cooler to cool 2 of these?

And for the bagilionth time THE CARD WAS MADE TO RUN AT 95 DEGREES

I imagine after the the reviews roll out AMD would be like

"but guys listen, we design it run at 150c, we understand the heat pipes are turning red, but rest assured that the gpu is comfortable to run at that temperature"

Still not as hot as a GTX 480.

Also: three X after the 290 = halflife 3 confirmed.
And: 3 X after the 290 = they need to be careful when registering the promo-site domain, because I bet "290.xxx" is already taken if you know what I mean :P

But then again, with two 290X cores each with 4GB RAM and a 512bit memory bus you wouldn't need v-sync for a while.
