PowerColor releases the first custom Vega 64 and it's HUGE

I didn't see anyone else post this today, so let me know if it's a repost.

Powercolor has released their newest Red Devil card, the Red Devil Vega 64.

 

It's been reported on several sites and listed on others for preorder - such as Overclockers uk (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powercolor-radeon-rx-vega-64-devil-8gb-hbm2-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-190-pc.html)

It's got a 1417 base clock - a pretty good improvement over the 1247 of the stock 64 air cooled.

And wow is it huge.. 

It's got three fans cooling a giant aluminium heatsink, and it 's (reported to be, this is likely inaccurate) 283mm wide, 40mm tall and 130mm deep.  I assume the massive heatsink is to compensate for the ridiculous powerdraw of this card on top of the 200mhz overclock.

As for how many slots this thing will take up - it's unclear. Some reports state it's a 2.5 slot card, WCCFTech state it's a huge 3slot card, however the specs on Overclockers.co.uk state it's only a two slot card - which I find improbable at best.

 

 

EDIT: The measurements given are from Overclockers, the website who listed this card. This is (almost certainly) inaccurate - retailers tend to copy + paste descriptions rather than use their own.

The real question is, does it actually perform any better, or is it just cooler/looking?

For reference, the Asus Strix 1080Ti is listed as 134mm wide.. I assume the massive heatsink is to compensate for the ridiculous powerdraw of this card on top of the 200mhz overclock.

Those numbers seem a bit off  28cm wide but only 4cm tall?

Edited - OCUK seem to have used a different measurement rating on their 1080Ti. I'll find a reference to the 1080ti in a sec

The "massive" i's more to do with that fact its a 3, maybe even 3.5 slot card, rather than the length.

No it's not. Based on the measurements posted, maybe, but they're wrong.

 

Even then based on the measurements posted, the only one where the strix 1080ti is 4mm larger is the height, which is different to thickness.

Sorry, I should have been going off of the 40mm there, not the 130mm. Stupid mistake to make, but even then it's smaller. Based on Asus own measurements available on their website, the card is 29.8cm x 13.4cm x 5.25cm. Unless the measurements for the vega card are wrong, it's bigger in every direction.

It's not hard to think the measurements are wrong - if you put this side-by-side with an EVGA or Strix 1080Ti it makes it look tiny. This card makes my Strix 1080Ti look like a 1060.

As far as hearing people's experience with PowerColor goes it is an avoid at all cost card

Now that is what you a thicc GPU, I bet you now Zotac is going to get all sweaty and release an even thicker one just to reign supreme with having the largest graphics cards, if you know what Im referencing *A-hm*

The measurements for the vega card are wrong, surprised whoever made that 40mm number up didn't notice it to be honest.

Just look at the size of the card compared to even the two pci brackets, that alone shows it's way over 4cm, surprised they didn't stop and think about it for a moment, soon as i read 40mm i was like well that can't be right.

I went by that first picture too fast, that definitely isn't 40mm, you're right.

As for the brackets comparison - it's got to be a 2.5 slot card - there's only two slots in the first photo.

It doesn't go by the number of slots it has though, it goes by the number it actually takes up/covers when installed.

As it would cover 3 (2 with brackets from the card, one blocked by the big heatsink), and by looks of it possibly partially cover a 4th though thats hard to tell without full dimensions being given. it makes it a 3, possibly 3.5 slot card.

 

One thing confusing me is the pictures though, on the image where it's picture from the bottom(1st image from the PCIe side) the case brackets are attached to the PCB.

But on the top down image(2nd image), the brackets are connected to the heatsink, and the PCB looks to be just floating there.

Could be a bad render or something, idk.

This is certainly a nostalgic moment: This product will bring back virtually extinct pc products like 800-1000 watts PSUs or GPU support brackets to prevent sagging.
