Only 8GB of ram? Are you only gaming or video editing/ streaming? This will tell you if you need the 6 core cpu.

Gaming and a little streaming but I plan to upgrade  it to 16GB fairly soon but I may just go for it now. The reason I thought 8GB was that ram is expensive right now.

Pretty okay.

I'd switch the PSU to a corsair CX450M, and personally, I'd try to upgrade to 16GB RAM as fast as possible.

this SSD is also cheaper+better than the sandisk https://pcpartpicker.com/product/MZJkcf/sk-hynix-sl308-250gb-25-solid-state-drive-hfs250g32tnd-n1a2a

but overall pretty well-done

You don't need a big PSU

Do not listen to anyone telling you to get faster RAM. You are graphics card bound and therefore you will see absolutely no increase in gaming performance with faster RAM.

The Prime Plus costs a lot less than the Strix, and is decent.

There is a 2800 MHz 1x 8GB stick for $75, get that.

The SL308 is a much better SSD than the SSD Plus, and costs less.

The M12 II is pretty bad. The CX550 is available for $25

I think the hoomans put their builds here?

Why do you hoomans give your builds a name? Here's my build, which I shall call "Do as I Say, Not As I Do" (seriously, don't get this build)

Spoiler

There's no sense in him getting faster RAM.

From what I have seen that is not completely true but the gains from say 2400 to 3000 are pretty minimal in gaming.

I know it has benefits elsewhere, but I specified that my point was only valid when talking about gaming performance.

There is. Depending on the game, he could see gains; even the ones not entirely limited by the CPU. If he decides to upgrade the GPU, he would see bigger gains. And the cost difference is just $5, which is a 0,6% increase in the cost of the build.

Yeah but a 1-3% performance increase is not much but we cant say its nothing.

The op would probably get a better performance boost from RAM by buying 2x8gb now running it in dual channel over getting a faster speed.

Everything here all comes down to budget.  We can only speculate if the build listed was at  his max budget or not.
