Friend's Laptop shows this screen, any idea?

Toynbee

"no bootable device found" pretty much tell you right there. The BIOS cannot find an operating system on any device currently connected.

Go into the BIOS and check that the drive is detected by the BIOS if not dead drive else the OS needs reinstalling.

Disconnectand reconnect harddrive. Or in bios you need to set the first boot device to a OS holding HD.

Next time u boot keep pressing f12 for a boot menu. If that doesnt work restart do the same with function key f10 and or f9. Screenshot or pic that menu.

It can be one of the things mentioned below.Either

1.The HDD is broken or has failed.

2.The HDD is disabled in BIOS.

3.The OS is corrupted. or

4.The BCD is Corrupted or missing or modified.

First check if the HDD is recognized in BIOS.If it is recognized, check if the HDD is disabled. If it is disabled then enable it although the chances of the HDD being disabled is slim.

Then ask him/her if he/she messed the OS by dual booting the current OS with another OS.In that case the problem might be a corrupt BCD.If this is the scenario, you'll have to use Hiren's boot cd to repair the BCD using BCD repair tool.
