Hi Guys

I bought a Spyder 5 with Express software a few years back, I am now a professional photographer and I was very excited to have monitors running properly and I believe this would be one less thing to worry about so I invested, however, I was never happy with the results they always seemed very warm and the whites looked dirty. I  now have a new PC and monitor so I decided to get the Spyder back out and I  have the same results again. None of my hardware is the same.

What am I doing wrong?

Are you using DisplayCAL or the first-party software?

I  am using their software, I  have used DisplayCAL in the past, however, I  was concerned that it was a bit over my head and I would not know if I had followed the instructions correctly.

Try using DisplayCAL again, select your monitor in the Display & Instrument tab, and set the Calibration tab like this:

 

 

Specific settings are up to you; personally I prefer 7200K and Gamma 2.4, but the sRGB standard is 6500K, Gamma 2.2, and 80 cd/m² (though brightness is sort of up to you)

 

When you start the calibration, you'll get this:

 

 

Click "Start Measurement", wait for it to set up, then turn the monitor's contrast down, look closely at the white measurement area on the screen, and increase the monitor's contrast setting one at a time until the white area stops changing shades, then go back one (to the first occurrence of that maximum white shade). Then follow the instructions and use the RGB gain controls on the monitor to try to get them to match, and set the brightness to whatever you prefer. (If the monitor has no RGB gain controls, uncheck "interactive display adjustment" on the Calibration tab).

 

Then go ahead with the calibration and see how it turns out. It'll probably take a few hours, so plan for that.

 

Also, what monitor are you using, out of curiosity?

 

EDIT: Also before any of this, if it's a 1920×1080 monitor then make sure you go to the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Settings, to the "Change Resolution" page (NV) or Displays Tab (AMD), and make sure the Output Dynamic Range/Pixel format is set to Full Range RGB, not Limited RGB.
