Both. You can sell the 1070 for about $400 or more on Ebay (NIB) to miners.

I have a hard spending cap of 1200 CAD, it's this or a Ti, or maybe I could squeeze a 1080 if I sold the 1070

Your GPU is more important than anything for VR. The 970 shows its weakness playing some of the simpler titles, but a 1070 will be more than sufficient as long as you have an i5 or higher CPU. If I were in your place, I'd take the VR package unless you also have 1440 monitors to use the Ti with.

The i5 4460 is listed as "minimum", but there's barely any difference between 1st gen and 7th gen aside from memory improvements so you should be fine.

first to second gen was the last large improvement, as far as I can tell the only real upgrade (for gaming) for me will be X299, Z370 or X99.  I'm just waiting to snap up a high end mobo on one of those platforms cheap second hamd

X99 can be had for "cheap", but the CPU's still cost the same (which is what I would recommend you to get). If you're okay with CFL, the i3 will be the "minimum" with the i5 and i7 being better choices, but for the i3 and Z370 being ~$280, I'd take the i3 as a worthwhile upgrade if you're getting the i5 or i7 a couple of months later.

The i3 would have been a great chip for server use (you'll mainly be targeting gamers), but it lacks the ECC support found in older generation i3 models.

Thats EXACTLY what I'm doing, got 3 days left with 4 "watchers" (all 4 watchers started watching after the current bid was placed) and it's currently sitting at 400 bucks, I already got a steal on my 1080ti so I'm keeping that and selling the 1070 to reduce my "all in" cost on the headset. Frankly how hot the 1070's are right now is the ONLY reason I did this deal.

this is my first time selling something on ebay, bought many things before but never sold, so I don't know how good or bad these numbers are.

That's a great price! Hopefully it goes well for you.

Be sure to pack it well, take pictures of the packaging before shipping it, and get tracking. Make sure that you get a photo of the S/N for the card before shipping and post it on the Ebay page for reference.

HTC packaged the Vive and 1070 separately so I was planning on just using the box it came it, but I also have another box just slightly taller that would allow me to fit some more airbag packing I have from other shipments.

I will take a picture of the S/N and add it to the listing later tonight.

I also used a promotion Ebay was running, if I understood the restrictions properly then the standard percentage Ebay take will be waived on this sale so I should get the full amount. I was initially going to sell it on here but then I saw what they where going for on Ebay and decided I could get more selling there without feeling like I was ripping someone off (since they chose the price this way).

Damn I must have missed it as it's only showing the Vive and Fallout 4 VR bundle now :(
