Windows lag when 2 monitors connected

Hi,

I recently encountered a problem where every 30 seconds or so windows will be very laggy. For example when I move application around it will seem like the monitor is running at 10 fps all the time. This will come and go frequently (about 30 seconds or so). However, this only occurs when running 2 monitors of my gtx 1060 6gB. And usually windows on my smaller monitor will lag but not on the ultrawide. If I unplug the second screen it will not lag at all.

 

According to gpu-z the graphics card is just idling when its laggy and I only have file explorer open. I have plenty of vram available and dram. So its not a hardware issue. The cpu is also not under any load and I have tried it when at stock (currently overclocked). Temps  are ok everywhere. What is GOING ON?

 

I have:

 

• Changed cables
• Unplugged and replugged in monitors (like I said)
• Restarted
• Reset UEFI
• Updated graphics drivers
• updated UEFI
• I am not in any current beta programs such as windows beta but it seems that this started happening a couple of days after I updated to windows fall update 1709

TLDR

 

My monitors lag periodically when 2 are connected but not with 1.

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the GPU drivers?

yes. and I did an update as well which uninstalles then reinstalls

Disable V-Sync globally in NVIDIA Control Panel and restart the applications or PC.

I don't believe there updates does a true uninstall. You'd be looking at using an Nvidia too for that it possible DDU.

Have you gone into Event Viewer to see if anything is being flagged during that time?

 

You don't have a virus or malware installed do you?

I am not exactly sure why you have this issue if you run both monitors at 60Hz, I just know that this is a common issue with the DWM in Windows 10, 8.1, 8 if you run multiple screens with different refresh rates.

yeah well I though that was the issue because my primary monitor is 75 hz and the other one is 60 hz. But I set them both to 60 but yet it didn't do anything. But resetting nvidia control panel 3d settings did the trick. Thanks again man
